I stopped trying to count all the people who've tried to sell us ganja on the island and just settled on noting who HASN'T attempted this... pretty short list so far, and getting shorter by the day! ) It's amazing the huge economic gap between tourists and natives here...apparently the government is pretty crooked from what we've gathered from the locals, so all the money coming in from tourism lines their pockets or goes toward more tourist buildings, leaving pretty much no room for social class advancement for anyone living here. Kinda sad, but everybody's so laid back and nice here it doesn't seem to worry them much (the nice part probably because they're trying to get more of our money, but hey, we'll take what we can get!) Climbed up the 600 foot Dunn's River Falls yesterday - right up the center of them!! It was pretty crazy, looked down and got vertigo just thinking about how we had been climbing them... gotta go, will write more later! Hope everybody's having a great week!!!

Hey Dora, sounds like you are having a great timee
I went to Jamaica on my honeymoon..over to the very end of the island..and OMG do they drive crazy down there
I also noticed the heeyuge disprity between rich, and poor, and for such cool people, and such a bee-tee-ful and touristy place it is a shame...
I did the Dunn's river too..wasn't it fun????
have a great time try a "hummingbird" drink..heaven in a glass

OH .. I LOVED Jamaica ... it is such a beautiful country ....
However, the poverty there made me very sad ....
It was difficult to see how so much of the population lived ....
while a mile away there were multimillion $$$ mansions ...
Glad that you are embracing it all Dora .. BE SAFE!!!

Never fear - LOTS of pics coming, Elise!! Not so sure about uploading to the computers here, though, so will probably have to wait til I get home... we even got a video of the falls trip on dvd, it was so cute!!!
Laura-Thanks!! Wow, am definitely having fun!!! Have been going running or swimming every day.... a couple days ago we ran up this winding road that goes up the mountain - I swear it felt like it was practically vertical by then end!! Saw some amazing sights on the way up, though, so it ended up being worth all the weezing and gasping after all! Everything we saw was really typical of my experience here - on one side of the road we see this stream filled with amazing rushing rapids, further down on the other side there are two whole families living together in a tent and the concrete block foundation of an unfinished building....
Went horseback riding Wednesday up through the back roads of the villages- it was one thing seeing the buildings from the road, but riding through them for an hour was a totally different experience - definitely an eye opener!! Haven't been riding in so long, I came back and couldn't sit down the rest of the day from all the trotting we did... looked yesterday morning and I saw GIANT brown bruises completely covering both thighs below my butt!!! And yet for some reason I'm thinking about doing it all over again on Tuesday!!
Barb-You're right, it's so tough seeing how a lot of people live here, but I'm definitely a lot happier to be staying in the middle of the city and be able to see all of it, instead of doing the typical tourist thing and just staying at one of the resort compounds the whole time and never getting to really see Jamaica!
LC-Am about to order myself a Hummingbird right now!! Thanks for the tip!
My time's running out online... time to go down the beach and spend the afternoon swimming and sunbathing - life is so rough here!!! I've been starting to spend more time every day working on my strength and flexibility moves - hard work, but I'm hoping once I get into the habit of doing it it'll get easier, or at least more routine!!
Barb & LC - any other places you guys went to down here that you'd recommend me seeing?
Can't wait to catch up on everyone's journals - have a great weekend, gals!!!

Oh, that sounds like Heaven, with a bit of humbling stuff thrown in to ruin it all! I used to love horses, but then they all started biting and throwing me off, and now I don't really care for them anymore. Glad to hear you're getting so much activity in - that will keep your bikini fitting right!! Enjoy yourself!

I went looking for a pic of a Jamaican sunset
and here's what I found...
Jamaican Sunset recipe
1 1/4 oz Captain Morgan? Original spiced rum
1/2 oz Myer's? dark rum
1 1/2 oz orange juice
1 1/2 oz pineapple juice
1 oz sweet and sour mix
Shake and strain this drink into an ice-filled hurricane glass. Float myer's rum and garnish with a pineapple, orange, or cherry pinwheel.
Serve in:
Hurricane Glass
I'm sure she's steering clear of anything like this though

Hey Sunshine! Just keeping your journal alive while you're busy having too much fun!
I'm sure I've had a few of those Jamaican Sunsets before, but it sure looks good. I'll whip up a batch and have a couple for you.
