Sounds fine...you probably need to add weight.
No, just kidding. Give your neck a break for a couple weeks and go back to it with lighter weights. The neck muscles are relatively small and are more for static endurance...train accordingly.

I did neck extensions with the harness ,for 25 x30lbs .
then after a week or two 25 x40 lbs.for flexion 30x22lbs.I do high reps for my neck.but should I rather train the neck in a static way instead of moving my head up and down?don't know if this is safe on the long run.maybe somebody has experience/knowledge on this.

I've got the grinding sound in my neck too from an old injury. I've gone to physical therapy to get disc realigned and I'd hope that would take care of the noise. It didn't. Other than going under the knife I don't think the damage is fixable.

you have to get the disc realigned?
what the.?
so a grinding sound is not so innocent at all.
well ,in my case it is not like I have it all of the time.only some now and then maybe when I go to heavy with the neck harness?
I haven't got a bull neck.it's 16 1/4inch(relaxed)
I do know that the neck is something to be way more careful with than any other bodypart.

The therapist only partially realigned the discs. I don't know if the grinding noise is from the disc being out of alignment or there is something loose in there.
From my original injury, it took me 13 years to get it looked at. So, obviously it's something you can live with. I just used to it after awhile, but I regret not going to the doctor's when it happened.
I don't have any nerve tingling or anything like that. It's just a slight ROM issue and the noise. However, I do avoid the neck exercises your doing. I've tried them and great pain has ensued. I'll stick with my turkey neck as it's the only option I have.

I think the grinding sound comes from those discs being forced upon eachother in some way .and the neck being so close to the ears.we won't hear our lower backs grinding but if we could, what woud we all hear then .
yeah maybe you should have got it looked at after the accident.but I can understand you didn't.I would also think the problem would go away.the body recuperates from a lot of other issues as well.so why not this.
so you even tried neck exercises although you had those grinding noises.
wow.
geat pain made you stop.and going really light?for 30 reps?
or higher.for the pump?maybe it has a therapeutic effect.

I'd start light around 15 reps for 4 sets. The injury pain was too great for the next few days. So, no more of that for me.

wow,no ,then don't do that anymore ..
wel at least you tried.
now you got me worried about my neck too :-/
and I'm lifting weights like 18 kilos for 30 reps.is a neck hernia awaiting now?
I hope you recover from it.what a mess.
here in europe, most don't train their necks directly.
they think it looks ugly a thick neck, and also that is dangerous to work you neck directly.'asking fr trouble'is the thought.
there is some sense in that I think.

man quit the neck exercises..
theres plenty of ways to build a thick neck without "grinding" it.
ever hear of traps? hit those ... stop the harness

yes, you may be right GORILLAWARRIOR.
when I look at olympic weightlifters they all seem to have strong necks.
and they don't use the harness either.

Agreed. Once I realized my neck was hopeless I settled on hitting the traps more solidly than ever. Traps is where it's at!

then again, what jdmalm123 said makes sense too.
in my case.it is not bad.not like king marmoset.
no pain ,hurt or any of that when doing the exercises.
and don't boxers and american football players train their necks intensively either?
