I realise that is the only way to go... with my life, planning sometimes is worth nothing because things happen.
So just doing it when I can, and if it comes down to it, I got a jump rope at home or I can put my sweats on, grow a pair and go run outside.
I want to hit that 100 lbs mark by Jan 15th which is when I will upload weight and pics.

Overkill????
I was watching Shay on Jay Leno and while I was happy to see that she not only kept the weight off but loss another 50 (for a total of 150 lbs), I was just dumfounded by the following:
She said she works out for 4 hours a day on days she works and days she has off 7-8 hours a day and that she has 6 trainers. She takes one day off a week.
Now sorry but... 4 hours Monday to Friday, 7-8 hours on Saturday and 6 trainers? WWWWWHHHHHHAAATTTT?
I am thinking maybe it is because she is trying to win the at home biggest loser prize but still! Just wow!
Another thing, is the show paying for the trainers? I mean no direspect, but last time I checked being a social worker did not pay wall street $$$ and she does not have 1 or 2 or 3... she has 6, one for every day she works out. That is some major $$$$ right there.
I think they should have a disclaimer at the end...

the biggest loser...while motivational...is also the least healthy approach i've ever seen to weight loss....these people take diuretics, laxatives, binge and purge and cut water before weigh ins, run deficits of over 4000kcals a day through ridiculous amounts of activity, sign a bunch waivers, and they have a full medical staff available at all times checking them out to make sure they aren't dying and then people at home expect to be able to lose 20-30lbs/week. I really hate the unrealistic expectations that show sets up for people...ever since that show came on the air I've got people who get frustrated when they lose 1-2lbs a week...which they don't realize is 50-100lbs a year....*sigh*

A good trainer, while worth it if their good and you can afford it, is not cheap. And 4 hours a day for one who's not a pro athlete!?! Diet and exercise are a part of a healthy balanced lifestyle, not the point of one. You make some good observations Carl.

Plan to be in the gym for lunch hour today for back and biceps.
As for cardio, I am going to try a mix of Jump Rope and Burpees; should be interesting.
Of course for the burpees I cannot go as fast as I want to (fat ass) but it is a start!

I agree with both of you guys, it does set unrealistic expectations from the viewers.
I love how they say you can do this at home and yet they always beg not to send them home.

Oh absolutely! Now don't get me wrong. Some of the stuff the trainers have them do is pretty cool, NOT FOR 6 FRIGGIN HOURS! Hell MMA guys don't even train that long and they're know for silly long sessions. We watched it one time and this guy 'lost' 27lb in one week. Ummm yea right. My ass. I can do that to by cooking my internal organs and not drinking and fluid for a whole day.
Now granted while I believe for someone who is drastically over weight, they'll tend to see a slightly higher weight loss than a healthy person simply because that much BF contains so much viscous fluid. Even then I think if E ever had one of his clients tell him they lost 10lb in a week, he'd raise and eyebrow.
Oh and that Shay gal lost 100lb in 9 count em...9 WEEKS! Tick tick tick. Cause when that bomb goes off watch your fingers and toes

I agree with you...
I guess they need the big numbers to keep people attracted to the show.
Also, have you noticed that their contestants get bigger and bigger each passing season?

What I want to know is how do some of those folks pass any kind of physical to do all that high impact stuff? Guess that's what corporate waivers are eh? lol
But yeah, if they 'only' lost 5lb a week why would general america watch? Not enough drama in that. But you get some sloppy phucker close to having a stroke and hell yeah that's good t.v.!
I think the bigger contestants just shows you the predicament our country is in. Happy medium is just not in the cards. You either suck down cheese burgers or diet on cocaine and red bull.

to be honest Carl it seems like everyone's actions make you feel sorry for yourself.
Its like you look in these logs trying to find validation for your own inability to succeed...Constantly predict your own failure....And you make excuses.
Look to yourself, find the strength we ALL have, and use it. Quit Fuc*ing around

Re-read this 5 times so far to get myself motivated for this afternoon...
At the gym earlier I was looking around trying to find ways to make cardio fun (see burpees with jump rope) I came up with with the following:
My gym has two sets of stairs opposite each other that take up to the cardio section upstairs.
My goal for this afternoon is the following:
-> Sprint up one set of stairs, get to the other side still sprinting and sprint down.
-> Now when I get down, grap the two dumbells I have already placed by the stairs and re-do the same exercise again but this time walking (since dumbells will be between 80-100 lbs, have not decided yet).
-> And repeat for like 30-45 minutes.
I will report later on how it went

be carful. Dropping a 100lb dumbell on the stairs might be dangerous not only to you but to others in the area.

Ok, report time:
-> 2 sprint, 2 X 75 lbs dumbbells
-> 2 sprints
-> 1 X 75 lbs dumbbells, 2 sprints
-> 3 sprints
-> 2 X 40 lbs dumbbells, 2 sprints
-> 4 sprints
Total, I went up and down the stairs 20 times in 40 minutes. I have never been so close to puking in my life . Long story short, I will definitely do this again

Motivation
Just received this picture in a e-mail from my cousin. It is me in July 2008 at my aunt's 25th wedding Anniversary... I was probably between 335-340, one month prior to my own wedding.
Never again I say! NEVER! NEVER!

to be honest Carl it seems like everyone's actions make you feel sorry for yourself.
Its like you look in these logs trying to find validation for your own inability to succeed...Constantly predict your own failure....And you make excuses.
Look to yourself, find the strength we ALL have, and use it. Quit Fuc*ing around

I hear ya on "never again" Carl! Hate looking at old heavy pics of myself.
But look at how far you've come, you are over the worst part of that trek, over that mountain...just keep on going now, start picking up momentum on the downhill!
And nice stair sprints, looks like you gave them your all!

I have my wedding picture prominently displayed on my desk as a reminder of what I never want to get back to! (kind of sucks that it's my wedding pic, tho!)

If it hurts from lack of sleep GO . If it's because of injury or illness play it by ear.

My reaction to this workout is best summed up by Denzel Washington as Frank Lucas in American Gangster:
"My man."
