Repped Gear War Stories Contest (free tees/supps!)
Seeing as how today is Veterans Day, I thought we could use a contest to tell our war stories and get some free stuff. The idea behind this one is simple: tell your best war story, the who/what/when/where of how you got injured the worst in your life and how you came back to beat it . It can be a physical injury or a mental scar, but describe it and show us the proof if you've got it.
My claim to fame is breaking my back in '99, 7 compression fractures as well as 1 normal fracture, as well as a collapsed lung after falling nearly 35ft onto my ass. Nine months in bed plus several more in a wheelchair and PT. I deadlift nearly 3x BW after they told me I may never be the same; they were right, im stronger than ever 10 years later.
I don't know about you guys but stories of pain and turmoil turned into recovery and strength get me stoked and more motivated than ever. Post em up, heres the prizes:
First Prize
1 Repped Shirt of Choice + Supplement Pack worth about $75!
Second Prize
1 Repped Shirt/Tank of Choice
Third Prize
1 Repped Tank
Winners to be chosen 11/27/09 by quality of post and overall response. Entries should be a decent paragraph to be considered. Thanks and looking forward to the responses!
Open to US only, APO/FPO acceptable!

Sorry this is so long, but its helps me when I let it out.
I like threads like this. It give me a chance to express my past and talk about it. It seems when I talk about my past, it just lights my fire to be even stronger!
Here is how it all started:
again, sorry so long
I was anorexic going into college. It started following a series of losses, difficult circumstances, and years of dealing with undiagnosed health problems. In addition, I?d been giving and giving to others. Over time, I felt worn out all levels. I tried to tell others this was a difficult time for me, but they didn?t have anything to say except that I needed to mellow out.
I tried talking to a couple of different counselors and each of them just made things worse. Feeling everything inside and around me was out of control, I sought control by limiting my food intake.
I?d studied eating disorders so I knew what I was doing, but I felt powerless to stop it. I didn?t take it seriously at first. I was already depressed and suicidal, and for a time I saw the eating disorder as a slow way to take my life.
I?d been afraid to release my inner pain, but those unexpressed feelings only kept me bound to anorexia. I had to take the risk and start letting out my feelings. I spent countless hours in tears and there were times I didn?t even know where the tears came from, but I knew I had to release them. I also spent countless hours writing in my journal. This was vital for me because as I wrote down my thoughts and feelings, I gained new insights and discovered thoughts and feelings I didn?t even realize I had. This was a way I would never have to worry about anyone judging me.
Eventually I found healing through my journal. As I experienced more peace in my heart, I was less drawn to restricting as well as less concerned about my weight and body image. I wrote verses, quotes and other truthful statements on note cards in order to combat the lies and negative thoughts that were feeding the eating disorder. This was an effective way to change my thinking which led to changing my behavior.
I didn?t know how much to eat anymore. Therefore, I obtained a meal plan from a dietitian and learned to eat a healthy, balanced diet. I relied on the Lord to strengthen me.
But once I finally decided I truly wanted to break free of the eating disorder, I let Him lead my journey. Without Him, I wouldn?t have found the freedom I now embrace.
I reccomend this for others going through any eating disorders:
Set small, manageable goals in order to reach your long-term recovery goals. The very common all or nothing mindset doesn?t usually work well in eating disorder recovery. This journey is completed one step at a time. Arm yourself with truth and positive thoughts in order to combat the lies and negative thoughts that feed the eating disorder. Be gentle with yourself. Learn from your slips and celebrate your victories. And always put your life in HIS hands!

Here goes nothing!
Went to VIR North in September this year. Told the wife this would be my last track day. Went out, was getting some great lap times, having very solid passes. Mixing it up with all the CR's. The second to the last session, there was a red flag, so the session ended early. Typically I NEVER run the last session, I just pack up and go home. Since the red flag I decided to go ahead and run the last session.... What a mistake. Got out there, told one of the CR's I am going to be hot on his ass.. First lap I passed 4 guys going up the roller coaster to catch up to the CR on the front stretch. Turn 1 solid, turn 2 solid, turn 3, I am hard on my front breaks, getting too close to the CR, so I pull harder on the front break, causing me to loose control. I high sided, broke my rib, wrecked my wrist, broke my right big toe, and torqued my knee. The bike was in bad shape, dent in the gas tank, track plastics needing repair, the whole nine. I had a 5k in 3 weeks that I promised my wife I would run with her. I needed to pre-pair for it. I didn't think I could do it, with a broken rib, but with a little bit of cardio every day, and light weights I worked myself back to 100%. I came in second place in my age category! My rib, knee and wrist still give me issues, but it is nothing I can't push through..
Pictures of the carnage (the plastics are being repaired)...
iPhone pics....
The lid

The more I think about it. I do have a war story. Not a physical one, but absolutely the most stressful moment of my life, and generally dont like to talk about it because it is also the worst few hours of my life.
My wife was pregnant with our 2nd daughter, and she was scheduled to have a c-section our daughter was breach, no biggie to us our first daughter was breach so she was going to have a c-section anyways. we went in, things were going as planned and they took my daughter out. Well generally within moments you hear a cry. Well, we heard nothing. My wife was laying there with her cuts literally outside of her body, and she looked at me and asked why she wasn't crying. At this point I am flipping out, but I have to be strong for her because she is in a fragile state, but I was fighting back my concern.. I told her that they are probably doing stuff and that it would be fine. Well at this point it was far to long not to hear anything, I was fighting back tears, my wife was starting to get really worried as they were trying to put her together. Finally we hurd a little cry/cough. And I just broke down, I remember crying and praying to hear my little girl just let out a strong cry, and after a few more minutes she did, but her lungs weren't ready to breath yet. I was able to go over and see her, and she was so purple/blue and I just touched her little hand and prayed that god would give her the strength to make it. They let me take her over to my wife for just a minute and she was able to kiss her and touch her face, then I had to take her back quickly. They started putting tubes down her nose, she had tape on her face, little monitors all over her and I just felt so bad that she had to go through that. But through all that she squeezed my thumb and I just melted, I immediately loved her with all my heart. I remember i felt the same way about my first daughter. I just couldn't stop thinking that I would lose her. She spent time in the NICU, the first day we really couldn't do anything but look at her through an incubator, it was so hard. But on the 2nd day she was doing so much better! They put her in a regular little infant bed still had the tubes and stuff, but we could hold her. The 3rd day she was doing fantastic! SHe was jondice, but heck that was nothing we couldn't handle. We could feed her and hold her, and listening to her cry was almost music to our ears!!
She also had colic for the first 6 months of her life, so ironically we got to hear her cry ALL THE TIME, and strangely enough, it wasn't as musical as it was in the hospital
she is gonna be 3 at the end of the month and has a 5 year old sister and they are my world. So that is my "war story"

okay this is more for comedy but this is funny and this is 100% true.
Its halloween this year and were having a MASSIVE party at my house. **** was crazy like 200 people dance floor kegs ect ect typical college banger. I live on the 1st floor, friends live on 2nd, and sorta friends live on the 3rd. It was startin to get real late and I was goin to lock the side door so people couldnt go out, and i opened it to see if anyone was there but no one was on my porch. However, i noticed a big trashbag or costume (its halloween remember) or somethin in my yard and i walk over to it and...HOLY **** ITS A PERSON. this girl was aallllll ****ed up and she could hardly talk(it looked like she was in shock) she said something weird about jumping off the roof. she was just in a ball in my yard soaking wet muddy with leaves in her hair and all over her. i carried her inside and the kid on the 3rd floor took care of her cuz he knew her. I figured eh typical blackout drunk college chick. oooooh boy was i wrong. my roommate got a message on facebook the next morning saying that she.....
JUMPED OFF MY ****ING 3RD FLOOR BALCONY!!!!!!!!!!
obviously we all ran up there and all said there is no chance in hell i would jump off there. this is how it happened.
Blackout drunk girl shows up to our house. goes up to the 3rd floor and punches 2 dudes on the face(details are sketchy as to why) who are boys with the kids who live there. now the 2 punched dudes girlfriends see this and dont like it. they start ****in this girl up. she got scared and ran out to the balcony. theres only 1 way from there and......SPLAT! this bitch jumped off the 3rd floor straight to the GROUND.
obviously every one found out and it spread through campus like crazy. the girl ended up dropping out of school apparently LOL. i cant even tell you how many times ive told this same story to people asking me about "some bitch jumped off your roof?"
oh and the kicker here is SHE SUFFERED NO INJURIES.......HOW THE **** DO YOU FALL 3 STORYS AND SUFFER NO INJURIES AT ALL!!!!!!!!!
CLIFFS:
-200+ people party at my house at college

-i enjoyed every time i got to tell the story again
-girl drops out of school cuz everyone was making fun of her LOL

My Story...Old but good...
1994 was the year...17 yrs old, if you are from the northeast you may recall we had a lot of snow that year. It was a Friday in January - no school. 4 of us decide to go sleighriding...we go to a local park that has a massive hill.
The issue with going that day was it was not fresh snow but rather packed and iced over already. Our modes of going down the hill were a deflated oval pool tube that fit 2 and a single round inflated tube. Another issue, was someone had the bright idea to build a ramp toward the bottom of the hill ...
Things were going well...going down on the deflated tube was rough...when we hit the ground felt like we were landing on concrete but the speed rush made up for it.
So we decide last time going down...I had to convince my friend to go with me. We are laying down I am on his right and away we go - apparently I must have been holding him because he yelled get off me...and we hit the ramp...up we go, I flip over to his left and hit the ground with my body but the right side of my face was like a slignshot against the floor...I get right up and first words are "I F-D up my face" my other friend didnt get up and stayed down...(eventually got up and was fine)
3rd friend said "its just a scratch" i knew it was a lot more...i was in friggin pain...we leave the park had to walk a half a mile or so home...go to the emergency room...doctors take x-rays and say everything is fine, told my brother just to wake me up every hour or so at night to make sure i dont go unconscious. worst part is i had to take the SAT's the next day...lets just say those scores were not used!!!
a few weeks later i have no feeling on the right side of my face...eye is blood shot and my face is flat after the swelling went down. Decide to go to a facial surgen - looks at the x-rays - says everything is fine but can put implants in my face to even it out...we move on.
Go to a doctor in NYC - looks at the x-rays and right away sees 4 cracked bones...I have the surgery a week later - approximately 4 weeks after the accident. The bones have heeled so while I am out, they have to rebreak them - now i have 4 screws and 2 plates in my face.
Best part is the accident is on VHS tape (old school)

Well, I know mine wasnt a war, but it was a battle I went through. Sometimes the grass is greener on the otherside.
And I agree, there are some good stories here.

What happened
Beautiful board ^^^
was in part due to my ego. There was a call-out for people to bomb the garages later at night. People were meeting up to cruise down the parking garages, do some sliding and random carving. I decided to join this group of people because I wanted to meet those that had similar passions as me. To make a short story even shorter, I was cruising down the parking garage at around 30 MPH. Since it was my first run, I didn't carve enough and I built up too much speed too fast. By the end of the run, the parking garage pours out onto the street. What I didn't realize was that there were two huge speed bumps in the entrance way. The other boarders swerved around it but I was going too fast and did not see these ankle high speed bumps. I hit the bump, my board stayed still and I flew off skidding off the pavement. I ended up wiping the blood on my shirt and continued to skate for another hour.
The lesson I learned is to always wear protective gear and take new routes slowly. I'm am thankful to not be severely crippled.

Honestly, best thing that ever happened to me!! I wanted boys of course while we were talking about kids. But I couldn't imagine having anything other than girls right now. I was actually babysitting my niece and nephew while my wife was working last week. Now keep in mind my kids are potty trained. Well my nephew just turned two, and laid a nuclear blast dookie in his diaper. So i had to change him, and it is SO weird trying to change a boy after only changing girl diapers! Kids are great, even when they smell like something that died.

I would love to get one of these shirts and wear it in the gym, but I don't have a war story.
