You never know dude, find the right collaborators to adapt it to a screenplay or staged play, or you're on your way.
I think I've mentioned it before but the Mentor story brings to mind this book, which I can't recommend enough. Seriously awesome read for anyone with an interest in fish, nature, natural history, how life works. Very light and easy reading, just a dialogue between the Fisherman and a Stranger, who he meets on the dock, befriends and brings along on a series of fishing trips from the beginning through the end of the season, teaching him what he's learned.

Yeah you rec'd that before, and I skimmed it...
It matches one of the critical aspects of my book... Which is that the "Philosophy" of "Living Forward" is told through dialog.
*****
Some of my recent break throughs...
-Refined Nainoa (The mentor) personality, so that he feels older than me.
Originally I didn't have Nainoa growing through the course of the book (Which is wrong, all characters like people must grow.) So Nainoa's "Conflict to Grow against" is that he's in the "Teaching Phase" of his life, and he struggles at times with learning how to Teach Leo, while still being a friend.
-Leo, I gave him my old problems with women/lonliness/angst over not becoming that super-hero/doctor/astronaut he thought he'd be when he was a kid. Leo's Learning struggle is how to own his own growing process.
Then I've started finding better ways to use ancillary characters as literary devices. While still keeping the stages of Mystery "Escalating."
*****
For instance there's an Island a long ways off shore that Leo is always curious about.
I've mirrored it to the Hawaiian PUUHONUA O HONAUNAU...
In this case, it was a sacred place of the Ojibawe Indians who lived on the lake, where in one could earn forgiveness for their transgressions by swimming out to the Island.
It is here at the end of the book where Leo will swim out, as an act of earning his own self forgiveness, to wash away the regrets of having embraced living a purposeless life.
But along the way little bits and pieces of his curiousity about the island and it's story are revealed.

Nice...
So looks like I'm deer hunting this weekend up at Father In Law's, Brother.
And then if my buddy marlon gets Laid off next week (Seasonal Construction) we're going to pony together, and shoot up to his cousin's place up in Grand Marais. (Very Northern Tip of MN Arrowhead) where they get an extra week of Deer hunting.
So if we can work it out we're going up there for 3-4 days.

Well considering it takes 10-12 hours to make (8 if you really rush it.)
You might want to get it all jammed in a crock pot tonight and just let the shoulder simmer all night long.
You should be able to pick up the pork shoulder at any grocery store... Or if you have a good butcher near by, you'll find a better price.

It's the beginning of the Marine Corp...
My Father, a former leatherneck himself was dusting off his flag this morning when I stopped by.

My father is a former Marine as well for 22 years. My whole childhood was spent on a Military installation. Tell your father I said Semper Fi

My family has actually served in every single American war. (We were on the other side in the Revolutionary, as Hessians)
Currently my little cousin is in Marine Corp Recon somewhere in the world.
Grandfather was a ranger at Omaha Beach, watched his own brother turn into pink mist when he took a mortar hit.
Uncle was a Marine Corp infantry at the Chosin Resevoir.
****
The Six military funerals I've been to has given me a unique understanding of the freedom of speech, in this world where people seem to struggle to tell the difference between an oppinion and an intelligent thought.
There's that moment there after the gun salute... They fold the flag... They give it to the window, or the daughter or the mother...
And then there's that recieving line you walk through where you try to say something nice... Normally I'm not the kind of guy to toss around useless platitudes, I almost never use cliche's... Everything that comes out of my mouth is usually something unique, interesting, compassionate or humorous.
And there's that point where you walk up to that widow, that mother, that daughter... Wearing that black veil, crocodile tears dribbling down, hanging on her chin.
In that moment even a master of words like me is forced to realize that there isn't a damn thing you can say to her.
Nothing is going to fix that... Nothing's going to make it better.
I've struggled over the years to honor the folded flags of those six men.
Since my gift is with words... The best I can do is to hold sacred my freedom of speech and not to use it as a means to simply run my mouth as so many people, places and institutions do... But to try to serve my gift to do something good with it.
Because in the end, when men give their lives for us... I figure we at least do some kind of small honor to them in living lives worth meaning something.

Sounds like our family. My little brother is taking his Chief ( E7 ) test soon for the Navy.

Also, thank you to all of the vets here that have served and are currently serving. God bless.

The temps have been WAY warm up here for this time of year. Deer hunting is decent but usually we have 6 inches of snow by now. It's supposed to be 55 today.

How about a Lasagna with that sauce recipe I gave you this past weekend?
Ingredients:
All the stuff for the sauce recipe.
A box of Lasagna Noodles (I make my own, but store bought is fine.)
A small tub of Richotta cheese (Near the cottage cheese in your Grocery store)
A small package of shredded Mozarella
A Medium package of Pizza cheese.
Parmesean
1 egg
A 9X12 cake pan.
When you first start making the sauce... Fill the 9X12 with some warm from the tap water, and put your noodles in it... Layering each one carefully... Give a light glaze of Olive oil to keep them from sticking.
If possible make the red sauce extra meaty.
As the sauce is getting done...
Empty your richotta cheese into a large work bowl. Add a little Parm, the Mozarella, and toss in some of those herbs you have from making the sauce, along with the egg.
Cracked pepper works well here also.
Mix to combine.
Then drain the water from the pan... Noodles will be firm, yet pasty...
Dry pan
Lightly grease pan
Lay down a layer of noodles so they over lap.
Put your sauce down.
Then another layer of noodles.
Then put your Richotta cheese layer down.
(If it's like concrete, and hard to spread with a spoon, just give it 2-3 tablespoons of milk to make it "Spreadable" but not "Pourable.")
Then another layer of noodles.
If you have a little spray bottle or something... Or just want to drizzle a tiny bit of water with your fingers... Just get the top of those top noodles a titch wet... (The other noodles have all the moisture they'll need to cook through, but the top one's need a tiny bit more to fully soften.) *If you were rolling your own pasta as I do, this doesn't happen as the noodles are in hydrated sheets to begin with.
Then cover liberally with the pizza cheese.
Put 2 tooth picks standing tall in the middle of it...
Tent with tin foil...
Put in a 350 degree oven.
30 mins later remove the tin foil.
about 20 mins later the cheese will be browned...
Take it out... Wait 5 mins... Cut and serve.
Should Feed 6-8 people.
A spring mix salad with a balsamic vinegrette is always a nice appetizer, bread sticks are a great acoutrament...

wow what a day hunting.
had a 4 point, and a spike both within feet of me first thing in the morning, a few hrs later a 5 point strolls through. 20 mins after that a doe lays up behind me. SHe's there for about 45 minutes 25 yards away behind a tree. Then out of nowhere a good buck (unsure on points) comes storming in and runs her off.
The rut is ON

Veterans Day. I can remember standing with my hand over my heart at 11 AM in our driveway, facing east, as I heard the reports from the Legionaries volley's at the cemetary on Main ST about 6 blocks away, many years ago.
My deep and personal thanks to all our brothers and sisters in uniform, serving around the world. Thank you.
My dad was one of those legionaries. A WWII vet with 3 years overseas.

Morning.
Went 0 for two on the Steelhead. Two nice hook ups. Fished about 7 hours and then met up with Orca (from the O35 forum) and his wife at their house for dinner.
All in all a very nice day off.
Prob won't head back up that way until the Smelt are in.

Sorry about your luck with the Steelhead. But you know what they say, "A bad day fishing is better than a good day at work".
