Join a gym or work out at home?
For the past, well, most of my life since working out, I've worked out at home (at my father's house, parents are divorced) where I have a weight set and bench etc. I have to cycle or drive 5 miles to get there.
I'm thinking of joining a gym. It's so fcking expensive though... I really don't know if the money's worth it, when I can work out for free - though the environment might be better in a gym and there's the social aspect. And some cute female ass to stare at for motivation. I dunno.
Any thoughts, misc?

if you have a pretty good home gym use that.

My home "gym" is a workshed with a hanging punch bag, a bench (bench press thing), and some barbells and dumbells. That's about it.

Hard to say breh
Gym def gets you motivated, seeing all the jacked betas walking around makes you wanna push yourself that extra bit. You mentioned the social aspect and yeah, def a plus
Also, there is a wider variety of equipment (free weights and bars, how do you work your hammies and quads?). Plus you can do cardio there on the machines and chat up all them MILFs at the same time.
Also, at my gym all the lifters are a pretty tight-nit bunch, all share nutritional info and new exercises to help break your plateu

I haven't had a gym membership in 3+ years. I perfer working out at home. This is largely because I have zero use for the social aspect of working out. I lift to train, not to look swole around the bro's.
You definately need a power rack so you can do all your basics, squatting, benching, etc. Once you get that, a barbell and some weight, you just start adding stuff little by little.
I had to work out in a gym a few months ago because I spent a week out of town. I did not enjoy the experience. The access to a bunch of crap I don't really use was by far outweighed by my discontent with working out around a bunch of tools. I guess I'm an antisocial bastard.

Ronnie Coleman worked out at MetroFlex and won the Olympia 8 times in a row, then he started working out at his home gym and lost twice in a row...and ronniea homegym has everything from heavy ass weight to peanuts.

Gotta get that gym atmosphere brah.
Join a gym but look at your options first. Don't waltz into the first Planet Fitness you see and pull out your credit card. You won't get much work done with all those cardio bunnies hopping around.

I'd work out at home if there was room for a squat rack. The female ass and other people aren't really that helpful, unless someone is spotting you. Dudes taking up the things you want to use and blocking your way because they need to stare at themselves in the mirror for 10 minutes aren't really going to help your progress. BUT, if you don't have a squat rack, I'd get a gym membership.

Good thing is that if you invested in some plates and an olypmic with a rack; those things hold their value quite well. After all, 45lb is always going to be 45lb
So if you change your mind and sell them to get a gym membership, you won't be loosing that much money realistically

Gym brah. Seriously, I've found that home gyms are good (I have a fairly decent one), but it's less motivating. You can't go as hard on some exercises because there is no one to spot you, it takes ages to switch dumbells around, and your equipment will never be as good as a proper gyms will be. I'm going back to a gym now, signing up shortly. It's gonna hurt my purse, but getting big costs money.

I was thinking the same thing. I workout at home to bro. But, am thinking of join the gym for like a month. Just cuz my muscle will get use to using the same movements & exercises from the same equipment eventually. So, I think joining for like a month would be good for me & then go back to working out at home. And, just go to the gym every now & then is what I was thinking.

Gym FTW. I couldn't afford all the equipment I use - neither financially nor in terms of space.

Gym brah, and get your work to pay for some. My gym membership is $30 a month, but with my work covering most of it, I only pay $10 per month. Feels good brah
+ Hot girls there, serves as added motivation
+ Forces you to go because you're paying to be there
+ Other people are bigger than you, so serves as motivation to get better
+ Lots more equipment than you can have at your house
+ Feels good having a pre-gym routine.
+ Feels good on the drive home

Thinking about getting my home gym, going to be outside in the elements but i like the hardcore aspect to it. My reasoning is theres not decent gyms around here. At most the gyms here have 1 squat rack and no power racks. The place I'm currently at has only standard bars, a lot of douches, ****ty music and isn't open weekends/all that late. I would prefer to get the job done with better equipment at my home house, not have to worry about any social aspects to training, use it whenever i want and put up with a little bad weather. If there was a decent powerlifting gym around here i would be all over it but I'm not willing to put up with this commercialized crap anymore.

i work out at a gym atm but am thinking of buying some gear to start working out at home. the gym is good for checking out the cardio bunnys and a good array of machines, but i just find it hard to get pumped up there. the music is gay and pretty soft and i don't really like wearing earbuds, and i get too self conscious about pumping myself up or going to crazy on the lifts..
i think i'd like to be able to pump the music i like at home and be able to pump myself up and get right into lifting without having to be conscious of other people

This
The good power racks have attachments you can add for things like dips, bench press, lat pulldowns, etc so you can have practically a complete gym in a small space
I'd buy a PowerTec rack...they are well made and there are scads of attachments for it.
Currently go to a gym near me though
