If you are eating out a lot....then choices are are very limited, specially with street food in India.....
Fortunately, Me and my wife love to cook so we end up making our own food which helps....

I know it sucks eating at home. You don't even have nutritional info on the labels of most foods here in India. So I incline on eating foods which have nutritional info on them so I can keep tab of things.
Just make sure you learn how to cook a bit lol. I make my own meals. Taste-wise it's gonna suck in the beginning, but you get used to it and then it starts to taste better..lol.
And make wise choices when your eating out. Its better to opt for a steak instead of gorging on butter chicken. North Indian and South Indian cuisine sucks lol. I love muslim food, especially their beef rolls..nomnomnonm

How to eat Healthy Indian food.
We cook at home and it is really not that difficult to eat healthy Indian food.
In fact Indian food, if cooked correctly, offers best of the both worlds...healthy and testy.
Few tips from my diet.
1. Use http://www.fitday.com/ or http://caloriecount.about.com/ website until you get control on your diet. You will be surprised when you see ratio of protein/carbs/fat in typical Indian food. It is tedious considering million ingredients that go in the Indian food. You will need a food scale to measure everything.
2. Once you learn to eyeball food and measure calories/nutrients you can stop using the websites.
3. Oil is not your enemy. Just make sure that the daily total fits your macros.
4. Add lot of eggs to the diet - Boiled, Omelet, Bhurji etc. with little Olive oil
5. Stop eating whole chicken and eat chicken breast only
6. Use little olive oil where recipe asks for oil.
7. Stop eating fried food
8. Stop the carb overload. Typical Indian food is Carb and fat heavy. e.g. reduce number of rotis/parathas/rice etc. South Indian food is not designed for bodybuilders.
9. Start eating fruits with breakfast, first snack, and lunch.
10. Split your protein needs across all your meals. Your body can only take 50-60 g protein at a time.
11. Don't skip vegetables just because you started protein heavy food. Green vegetables are a must.
12. When eating out go for tandoori food. Avoid curries, Indian Restaurant curries are grossly unhealthy.
13. Don't believe labels on Indian foods. I think they are not accurate most of the times.
14. Stop overcooking your food. Just cook right.
15. Do not wash cut vegetables. Wash before cutting.
16. Have cheat days to satisfy your taste glands for Indian food. If it is unhealthy, just eat a little. If you have carb overload days, you can fit it nicely into cheat days.
17. Minimize eating at friend's places. Food quality there is hardly in your control.
It does require some planning but once you get hang of it you will get into habit of eating healthy.

Superb post....
Another thing that I would recommend is that if you are living in a family where you have no access/control over food being cooked, then its very important to talk with those members of the family and try to make them understand your goals and dietary needs.
If you are eating out...then avoid things like Butter Chicken, Kofta Curries (usually they are soaked in cashew gravy), Paneer dishes, and the likes. Even a couple of small servings can tip calorie scales in four digits.....But once in while its OK I think.

2. Once you learn to eyeball food and measure calories/nutrients you can stop using the websites. YOU NEVER EVER EVER EYEBALL FOOD. ASK ANY ESTABILSHED BODYBUILDER, AWALYS WEIGH YOUR FOOD
3. Oil is not your enemy. Just make sure that the daily total fits your macros.
4. Add lot of eggs to the diet - Boiled, Omelet, Bhurji etc. with little Olive oil EGG WHITES BOY ... FOR EVERY 10 WHITES, 1 WHOLE EGG
5. Stop eating whole chicken and eat chicken breast only
6. Use little olive oil where recipe asks for oil. OLIVE OIL IS AMONG THE LOWER END OF EPA/DHA CONTENT START USING WALNUT OIL,MACADAMIA NUT OIL, AVACADO OIL, AND FISH OIL WITH PROTEIN FAT MEALS
7. Stop eating fried food
8. Stop the carb overload. Typical Indian food is Carb and fat heavy. e.g. reduce number of rotis/parathas/rice etc. South Indian food is not designed for bodybuilders. REGULAR FOOD ITSELF IS NOT DESIGNED FOR BODYBUILDERS, YOU PACK YOUR MEALS AND EAT ROUND THE CLOCK.
9. Start eating fruits with breakfast, first snack, and lunch. -FRUIT HAS NO PLACE IN BODYBUILDING BOY ... NO WONDER INDIANS NEVER GET RIPPED....TOO MUCH SUGAR!!!
10. Split your protein needs across all your meals. Your body can only take 50-60 g protein at a time.
11. Don't skip vegetables just because you started protein heavy food. Green vegetables are a must. - GOOD POST
12. When eating out go for tandoori food. Avoid curries, Indian Restaurant curries are grossly unhealthy.

16. Have cheat days to satisfy your taste glands for Indian food. If it is unhealthy, just eat a little. If you have carb overload days, you can fit it nicely into cheat days. WHAT YOU MEAN IS REFEEDS. YOU CARB DOWN ALL WEEK AND THEN REFEED TO KEEP YOUR T3 HEALTHY AND GET BACK ON YOUR DAILY LOW CARB AND CARDIO SCHEDULE.
17. Minimize eating at friend's places. Food quality there is hardly in your control.
It does require some planning but once you get hang of it you will get into habit of eating healthy.

Sup desi brotha's.
I feel like I am hitting a plateau when it comes to growing in size. I have been lifting heavy for the last few months and I am getting stronger but I am not growing. I am stuck at 175 lbs (I am 5'10").
Please clear a few doubts for me when it comes to food:
- Whole wheat flour in desi stores, is that ok to eat?
- Grapefruit juice (100%, no sugar added)?
- When bulking is it ok to eat whole eggs or just stick to egg whites?
- When bulking, how much cardio should I be doing? Just speedwalking or interval cardio?
I have a lot more to ask but will start with these. Thanks in advance!

How about subbing oily ghee for healthier alternatives?
It really depends on what type of oil you use for cooking. For most cooking, I usually use light olive oil (as opposed to virgin or extra virgin olive oil). You can use light olive oil it for sauteeing, baking and most types of cooking. It doesn't kill the taste of Indian food. It's a healthier alternative.
Ghee is not healthy at all. I avoid using ghee or butter.
