Here is a post from someone who was at the 1980 Mr Olympia-
*long story*
rofl no one cares about one guy's account of the 1980 olympia.
[sarcasm]...wow it's amazing how even the cameras hated mentzer and decided to warp him into looking smaller and much less impressive than Arnold in every single photo from every angle and every piece of video coverage available. Mentzer magically looked much more impressive in person because the cameras were severely biased towards Arnold. This story has convinced me that we are all wrong and this one unbiased fellow from 1980 is correct. Please rape my face and eat my father....[/sarcasm]

Now go ahead and tell me Arnold had better symmetry and proportion, or better yet show me a picture of Arnold with better symmetry and proportion.
Ignoring this pic are we Dr. Triceps???
"Dorian...never should have won..."

Thanks a lot for the link. I could not find any vids of the 80' Olympia and had thought like others that Arnold winning in '80 was questionable. Frank Zane looks so tiny (esp. Legs) next to Arnie

Dorian...never should have won...unless mass is the only concern.
Bodybuilding 'died' in the Yates era...
ROFLMAO!!!!
And the Yates pic posted in response to this quote was truly mind-blowing!!
mentzer was one weird dude. not only did he tirelessly advocate routines like 1 set of deadlift and one set of chins every 7-10 days, but he just cant get over that 1980 mr olympia even though he clearly lost. no wonder he was in a mental institution for years.
Will Harris (HUGE, proportioned)
Charles Clairmontem(classic physique)
Ronny Rockel (Previously until this last Mr. Olympia, worth mentioning)
Moe el Mousawwi (sp?) (amazing arms and proportions, decent symmetry)
I will agree even though Arnold's proportions weren't the best, in fact probably the worst in the entire lineup the sheer size and condition was enough to over ride the rest of them. Much like Ronnie and Dorian defeating a perfectly symmetrical and proportioned Shawn Ray.

erm that was most probably the anphetamines he admitted to using along side his ecclectic lifestyle

People think he is a champ... if he was a champ, he would have stopped crying and cracked down for the 1981 olympia. Instead, he quit like a baby and never got over it.

the only people who think he is a champ are his disciples who read ayan rand literature daily and never train more than once a month.
Up until two months ago, I would have said Ronny Rockel was under-rated. He has fantastic shape and symmetry, good size, and just an overall great physique. Yet he often places low in contests. (One theory is that he doesn't compare with the mass-monsters nor the super-shredded guys, so he stands alone - the old "jack of all trades, master of none" problem.)
I don't think Rockel deserves an Olympia title, but his 7th place finish in a very tough line-up this year at least gave him some respect.

Has anyone seen 'Total Rebuild' - the film that shoes the 1980 Mr Olympia contest and contains interviews with many of the competitors? I just find it strange how when dicussing the Arnold vs Mentzer thing that no one discusses that particular movie, which documents the contest quite well
