Ill, impious and impure hearts reproduce spiritually and psychologically undesirable offsprings. These offsprings in turn, if not guided by their guardians at some point during their growth, may become the source of fear, miserliness and grief for their parents and the society as a whole.
This phenomenon is now only recently being investigated from a scientific level, under the field of Epigenetics. The science of Epigenetics is relatively very young and there is much to be explored and empirically examined.
To inspect this issue on your own, you could perhaps start by viewing these documentaries, and reading this book.
I hope you find my interpretation useful.

Your interpretation has a philosophical take on the quote. In effect, the child mirroring the state of the parent's heart to some degree. Hence the source of those negative emotions. Because those emotions exist in their hearts. We see how many people have children for selfish reasons, and later may realize they were too immature themselves.
SK's take is that all such qualities or circumstances are the result of negligence towards one's duty and devotion to God. In a way maybe it is not too different, since a Muslim would generally believe that a person's state of heart (pure or impure) depends on following His laws. But what can be said of parents who are too stubborn to see his own flaws but can only see that of their offspring?

Kaaba
I have a question regarding Shia perspective on Kaaba. Since it seems you have not been posting in the Ask Islam thread, I may as well ask here. If you rather me post it elsewhere let me know.
What do the Shia say is the meaning behind the ritual of circumambulation of the Kaaba. The symbolic meaning of going counterclockwise seven times? Also why is the kaaba covered in black silk?
I don't know if Shia and Sunni teach the same meaning regarding the kaaba, so I would be interested in hearing both.
thanks

Hello ~Serpent,
You are correct, I do not post in the "Ask About Islam," since it is a sunni-oriented / sunni-Islam thread. If you have any questions about Islam (shia), you could always either PM me, or ask in the al-Majlis thread, or perhaps even open a new thread about it, whichever one that is more convenient for you.
The following link is a short, yet excellent view on the act of circumambulation.
http://www.al-islam.org/hajj/shariati/12.htm
The Kaaba is covered by the kiswa, a black curtain, which is changed annually at the time of hajj. In an interim period, lasting a little bit more than two weeks, the Kaaba is covered by a white covering, and it is at the end of hajj that the new kiswa is presented.
Traditionally, the kiswa came in different colors, including; yellow, green, and black and white. Though today the kiswa remains black. Therefore, there isn't any specific Islamic reason behind the colour black or the gold writings. Some have even expressed discontent about the fact that so much money is spent annually for the kiswa.
The following relatively short book is a wonderful book about Hajj and its rituals.

The Commander of the Faithful
"On that Day all Regions will bring forth false claimants claiming falsehoods. . . . This shall be a most evident sign and when it shall transpire the Light of God shall shine and His Glory (BAHA) shall be effulgent and all that you wish for shall be made manifest and all that is your highest desire shall become apparent."

Thanks.
I like the analogy, "It is like a sun in the center while the people are like stars traveling in their orbit of the solar system."
I still wonder what is the symbolism that is generally taught regarding seven counterclockwise circumambulation.

It is narrated by al-Sayyid al-Radi - may God be pleased with him - in the Nahj al-balaghah that someone said 'Astaghfirullah (I seek God's forgiveness) before 'Ali (A). 'Ali said to him, "May thy mother mourn for thee! Do you know what is istighfar? Verily istighfar is degree of the 'Illiyyin and it is a word that means six things. First is remorse over the past. Second, the resolution not to return to it ever. Third, to return to the creatures their rights (usurped in the past) so that you meet God Almighty in such a state of purity that no one has a claim against you. Fourth, that you fulfill every duty that was neglected by you, in order to satisfy your obligation in respect of it. Fifth, that you attend to the flesh of your body that had grown on unlawful nourishment so that it melts away as a result of grief and mourning and the skin adheres to the bones, after which new flesh grows there between. Sixth, that you make your body taste the pain of obedience in the same way as it tasted earlier the pleasure of sinfulness. When you have done these things then say Astaghfirullah.
Nahj al-balighah, ed. Subhi al-Salih, Beirut 1387/1967, p.549, Hikam, No. 417.
