I gotta throw out some reps for an awesome gym. I agree with the above......don't paint. That gym really looks tough!
Question, though. It looks like you already have a solid rack. Why did you add the second one?

Thanks for all the compliments and reps guys. The old school rack I already had is definately a solid rack. It's one like out of the Rippetoe videos and while it's a solid useable rack, it's only 21" between uprights. I also have a very solid old school squat rack that I now have stored in my storage barn. I bought the latest rack for a few reasons, number one being I couldn't let a deal like that pass on such a beast of a rack. My other racks can easily handle the job but this rack is my dream rack and I got it dirt cheap. Also, I haven't completely ruled out the possibility of trying my luck at opening a small hardcore bodybuilding/powerlifting/strongman kind of gym so I don't mind the redundency as long as I can make room. Lack of space is my biggest problem now. My garage is now crammed as full as I can get it with all the equipment still useable and I'm nearly out of storage space in my storage barn. I also have a Vision Fitness commercial quality stationary bike in the master bedroom (wife not so crazy about that lol). On top of all of this, I know where a used Dynabody brand GHR is for 150 bucks. It's less than 4 miles from my house. LOL

Sweet gym chris!! I am going to agree with everyone about the painting of the cage. Don't do it. Looks cool as is and matches the hardcore atmosphere.

Great gym, but I'm in the minority.
I would paint everything in the gym the same color

Dude, I don't know about that. Painting everything including taking apart the selectorized pieces would be a crap load of time consuming work.
I like to think having all the old beat up mis matched equipment makes it look like my own miniture metroflex gym.

Well I couldn't stand it. I went and paid for the Dynabody GHR today on my lunch break. I got it for 125 bucks. I haven't picked it up yet. Hopefully I'll pick it up this Saturday. I don't know where I'm gonna put it and make it useable.

metroflex is awesome in the pics. if there was a gym like it around here, i'd consider training there sometimes.

My wife's gonna kill me. I told her I was done after dragging home the latest power rack, bar, and weight trees from that auction. What am I gonna do, turn down a commercial quality GHR for 125 bucks?
Part of my problem is that less than 4 miles from my house is a guy with an old warehouse that buys and liquidates old gym equipment from many different sources. I have bought pieces from Craigslist, ebay, govdeals.com and that auction in NC, but probably 75% of my stuff has come from him. He must somehow get the stuff for next to nothing to be selling it for the prices he does and still make money. He usually cuts me great deals because I've been one of his best customers the past 6 months, go by and shoot the s*** with him on Saturday mornings, and let him know when I find cheap stuff I don't want to help him out.

I have a feeling that if you lived less than 4 miles from a used equipment warehouse you'd end up in the same boat I am. LOL
I got that old school vintage power rack for 100 bucks.
Old Prostar Hip Sled 100 bucks
Dynabody bench press 100 bucks
Another heavy commercial quality bench press I have in storage 100 bucks.
Body master Lat Pulldown 150 bucks
Dynabody Low/Mid Row 150 bucks
Champion Standing calf raise 150 bucks
Body master adjustable incline bench I currently have in storage 75 bucks
Dynabody 3" tubing military press bench 100 bucks
Cybex flat bench 50 bucks.
Vision Fitness E3200 bike in my bedroom that retails new for $1,099 for 100 bucks.
Those are some examples of the kind of prices I've been paying him. At those prices what is a gear whore to do? It's like I'm an alcoholic and the corner liquer store is selling vodka for 5 bucks a gallon. LOL

i've already been in trouble- i'm selling some stuff off right now just to make more room. i will have a reverse hyper someday, even if i have to make one that goes into my rack. i know i'd be in more trouble with my wife, too, if i had a guy a few miles away. does he sell on ebay? there was a guy in ohio that moved, i think his ebay name was kd77 or something like that.
my biggest problem is the guy who usually supplies me is about 260 miles away in columbus, ohio.

He has talked about selling on ebay before but I don't think he does it regularly. This place is called Bruno's Fitness Warehouse in Johnson City, TN.

Nice home gym. I wouldn't bother painting anything unless it's rusted or it's down to bare metal, because once you start painting stuff you'll have a hard time stopping (at least I do). As far as the Ghr why not take down the old power rack and put it there.

I can't actually take it down, it's a fully welded rack but if I can't figure out anything else, I may have to remove it and try to get it in my storage building.

Nice setup friend. I didn't see a GHR in there, so if you got a commercial one for $125......you did good and you won't regret it.
I have done pretty well myself on the used gym acquistions. If I had a supplier, I'd either be rich or divorced.....not sure which! But I'd definitely have some troubles because my garage is at least a quarter full most of the time!

I have a nice basement you could keep it in. I would only charge the ability to use it as rent.
