Anyone have a friend who lost a lot of weight and completely turned into a dick? Guy on my hockey team went from a nice guy to a complete prick to me since Im the last one that is still overweight.

I started out at about 455lb's (WOW that's massive looking back!). My dad who is slightly overweight had a heart scare last year which resulted in him having a quadruple heart bypass. Seeing him lying in hospital helpless and wired upto a room full of machines and so close to death gave me a scare! That was the kick up the arse i needed and decided to get my act together.

I started cycling to and from work, 35miles a day. Usually do 3 days a minimum, normally 4. As well as saving myself a fortune in petrol bills i started getting fitter and slimmer! Im actually addicted to cycling, if i don't cycle atleast 40miles on a saturday or a sunday i get grump and edgey....lol

I weighed in this morning at 288lb's. Still quite a bit to go but im looking to hit 266lbs by christmas and hopefullly 240 by the time my birthday at the end of March.

Im 6ft6" tall by the way!

Do i get treated differently? Im not really sure yet, i recently confessed to a good friend of mine (of 2 years) that i 'liked her'. She didn't have 'those' feelings for me unfortunately so im still kinda reeling from that and we're currently 'on a break' from each other to give each of us some time. Im looking forward to seeing her again hopefully in a few months looking trimmer! So im not in the dating game as of yet.

Friends have certainly noticed a difference though, some have commented that when we're out partying i don't drink anywhere near as much as i used too! I think i used to get absolutely wasted as a defence mechanism. Best thing I've ever done tho losing the weight! I went on holiday this year to Ibiza...i took my shirt off and sunbathed for the first time in....10 years!! Im not saying it was pretty but at my heaviest there was no way my clothes were coming off on a beach!!

All you big guys and girls out there, cmon....its never too late to start!!

I've gone from 465 pounds to 290. Size 62 pants to size 38 and 6XL shirts to L-XL shirts. Still got about 70 pounds to lose, but I'm doing good.

Life is like night and day. I've had female friends I've been friends with for years recently tell me that I look good and we should go out sometime. I have no problem getting dates now, invited out, service at restaurants/anywhere I go. I can shop in any store I want too. I'm not self conscious about my body even though I'm still overweight.

I still remember always worrying about small things, is it too windy to wear a certain shirt it might show off my huge gut, am I going to sweat by the time I get somewhere...I'm hungry but don't want to eat in public. Is everyone staring at my big ass...ect ect..

All these things that use to regulate my day no longer even come up.

heh. i'm starting out fairly recently & am still in the 16 yr old phase; sorta. i mean, that's my mentality. but that's not how i'm acting, 'cause i know better. but i'm still brand spankin' new to relationships. =/

life is totally different. people treat me differently, they don't 'feel sorry for me' anymore. that may have been in my head, but i felt like people did that to an extent. even though i wasn't EXTREMELY overweight, i was pretty big, and i think people could sense my depression/frustration. i am FAR, FAR less depressed now, that was a huge problem in my life for many years. finally doing something about it and sticking to it has made a world of difference.

21 is definitely where it starts.

24 and 25 in in less than 3 months, not a single date. Last year of University, possibly major after.

Started out at 257 and now down to 190.


Did you get more stares?

I don't know, I don't really notice these things at all. Maybe it's just I'm so used to not looking at others it comes natural to me to not notice.

Did you get negative or jealous reactions from friends/family?

I'm personally seeing more negatives than actual positives. I have one "friend" more so a room mate who I thought would be a good friend. Tells everyone who knows me to make a big deal out of my weight loss. Then there's the ones who try not to invite me to anything as they assume I wont want to go, if they do the one will say "he wont come, he doesn't do that anymore" -- this being the room mate..

On the other hand, I have one friend who supports me. I think the fact she actually gave me a card on my 50th lbs lost to congratulate me seems to say she does.

Outside of the personal friends, I don't really notice any change at all. Maybe it's just my mentality on things. Who knows, same junk different day.

also, most people are positive, but some people try to give me weight loss advice... and they're not even in shape. wtf? i obviously know what i'm doing, and i only ask advice from people whom i trust. it makes no sense. one guy at work supposedly at one time lost 100 lbs. now he's kinda overweight, and tries to give me advice that i am never seeking. it's kinda funny.

i dont get treated differently anymore. I started college in the fall, so none of those people knew me when i was fat. When someone actually found out i used to be fat, she was shocked.

Oh it could be worse. I'm 34 and I'm about to become single for the first time in 12 years which means I have not had a first date for 12 years and can't really remember how to go about meeting and talking to girls.

The timing was good though, my wife left me right after I lost my weight, so at least I have a chance to start new without being self concious.

So I guess to answer the thread question I was treated differently, I was dumped.

I was still a bit flabby and I told myself she's probably at least a junior or a senior and I was a nerd freshman taking an upper div history class... she'd probably laugh if when found out. Girls had never shown any interest in me until that point when this near 10 showed interest in me... I didn't know what to make of it. Live and learn. This event still haunts me.

Both actually. I use the YMCA for the swimming pool but do all my weights and a good part of my cardio at the Galleria Goodlife. Maybe I'll see you at the YMCA sometime.

Yeah I was out lastnight and was talking it up with a few very attractive girls. Something I could not have done 8 months ago. Between losing 50 pounds and having more confidence, its gotten easier for me to socialize. Theres still a part of me thats bitter and angery towards women. I use that anger in the gym when I need to get that last rep out.
