Pride Fight rules were best!
im sick and tired that in the US you can't kick your opponet when he is on the ground or when he bout to get up. Fedor vs rogers was great example, where rogers was getting up, fedor wanted to kick him, but pulled back remembering its illegal. elbowing your opponent is far more damaging than the kicks, yet that is Legal!

How do you know that elbows are more damaging than kicks?

idk man, someone putting their whole leg's weight behind a vicious soccer kick is probably more damaging than getting hit by the point of an elbow. the tradeoff being the elbow can easily cut through skin

well elbows cut deep. But my problem is that, there is no punishment for wrestlers. A guy can try many times to get you on the ground and you have no right to knee him in da face when he is trying to attemped it.

Right but they are less likely to cause brain damage. And you certainly have the opportunity to knee a guy in the face as long as his knees aren't touching the ground.

I noticed that right off the bat, I was telling my wife that he wanted to kick him so bad, but his foot acted, but then his brain took over. You can tell he is a thinking fighter.

yeah at that moment he would finish Rogers with kicks if that would be old good pride rules.
Fighters like Fedor&Shogun did a lot better in PRIDE due different rules.

You'd be surprised, on both accounts.

I'm pretty sure elbows on the ground were illegal for that Strikeforce card too. Soccer kicks and foot stomps definitely should be illegal imo, but elbows on the ground shouldn't.

I like the pride rule for judging a lot better. I do not miss the kicks to a downed opponent though. I think they do more long term damage to a fighter, while elbows tend to just open a cut. The cuts can be stitched up, while rattling the brain with a kick can do some serious long term damage.

I'm a fan of MMA and letting 2 guys go at it, but I did think soccer kicks and stomps were a little brutal at the time.. search some of Wanderleis old highlights, he was vicious. It was part of the sport, but it seems like the easiest way to long term brain damage. Imagine lying on your back and a guy stomps on your forehead with full force. Honestly someone could even die in the ring that way, they are just lucky it never happened.

I do like Strikeforce's rule of: no elbows to a grounded opponent.
Elbows make the fight much more succeptable to a doctor's stoppage.

But it also severely limits offense in some situations. It's part of the reason that some people found the Shields/Mayhem fight boring; Jake spent a lot of time in a range where he couldn't be effective with punches.

Me too, you could see the hesitation. Interestingly should they have been allowed, i think he would have ended the fight right there and then.

Quite possibly, also taking into account Fedor's past experience using them.

Yeah if it were old pride rules, rogers would have been fuked then and there on the spot, but instead fedor had to use his hands. Im all for soccer kicks, stops. way more exiting. Just not a big fan of elbows.

When you are cut, you are almost cut for life, hard to come back from those if you know what I mean.

there is no difference, if not quite a bit less, than a kick standing, especially to the head.
IMO i dont see anything wrong with soccer kicks, they are much safer than elbows.
