Side bends work the Quadratus Lomborum. There are plenty exercises that work the obliques that aren't as risky.

Just got back from the gym and had the pleasure of watching this guy do cable seated rows... The guy stacked on way too much weight for his frame and jerked the handle about 5 inches towards him snapping his elbows as he lowered the weight in light speed...
I was like, WOOAH there turbo...
We've touched a big about this but I think there's a HUGE group of people who have bad form simply by performing exercises with WAY TOO LITTLE RANGE OF MOTION
I see this as one of the most prevalent 'form' of bad form in all gyms. It's a combination of just plain bad form and using weights that are too heavy.

some of the worst I've seen:
-shrugs with a ton of weight and a spotter trying to help from behind
-super momentum lat pulldown and seated row
- body weight side bends (guy comes in the gym and does it for 5 mins straight in front of the mirror, at a tempo of 3-4 reps a second) lmao

Lmao @ spotting for shrugs. Wtf, if you need a spotter for shrugs, you shouldn't be doing shrugs at that weight, whatsoever. How do you spot a shrug anyway?

OH ****,
I saw another one at the gym today.... sorry I couldn't take a video of it haha
This guy loaded the EZ curl bar up w/ 2 25s when he looked like he'd have trouble w/ 5s
He preceded to lift up the bar and each rep by literally jerking his back until the weight would lift upwards his arms not bending at all.
The whole time his arms remained in about the same 120 degree angle while he jerked his back and thrusted his hips forward to move the bar..
oh yeah, he was wearing a weight belt too, lol
Maybe the worst form I've ever seen on a curl, i'm still laughing, he literally got close to 0 range of motion at the elbow joint...

That squat form was pretty disgraceful but it's still an attempt at a squat, this exercise is pure lunacy ...
