Deadlifting with no shoes?
The other day at the gym i saw some guy take his shoes off before he deadlifed. Is there any reason for this or any advantages?

Yes. Running shoes have a compressible sole, and suck for weightlifting. You should never lift weights in running shoes, which are only designed for running.
There are weightlifting shoes, or get converse all stars or some other non-compressible soled shoe. They're essential to maximising your time in the weight room.
If you don't do that or if your weihgtlifting shoes have high heel raises, then barefoot works fine.

^^ Yes. I had a really bad deadlifting day wearing thick running Nike. I ignored what I read about running shoes and deads , but its true.

I wear cross-trainers, which work fine for non-competition lifting.

If your gym gives you a hard time about slipping your shoes off, I would go with Nike Free if you don't feel like purchasing lifting shoes.

I wore water shoes the other day for squats as it's the same principle. I had them in the house already and BOY was squatting a breeze with those puppies!

I've been deadlifting and squatting without shoes the last couple of workouts and I won't ever go back to "regular" shoes. My foot is much more stable and I'm getting plenty of feedback from my body.

You're correct in that compressible soles are no good for lifting, but weightlifting shoes are really only good for squatting and olympic lifts.
DLing without shoes helps because it takes a small distance out between you and the bar. If you DL with a thick shoe on, it's like doing a deficit DL.

Yeah, I either deadlift barefoot (with socks) or in my slip-on Vans. If I try DL'ing in my pair of Saucony running shoes, I end up bouncing when going through the motions, which leads to no stabilization.

I'm curious too. I'm guessing it will since the soles don't look compressible...plus they look nicer than chucks.
