I'm pretty pissed off :(

I had sort of a Twilight Zone weekend from work this week. I believe there is a higher power that watches over us. Wed. Morning when I left work I had a overwhelming feeling that it would be the last time I would ever see my co-workers. The feeling that something really really bad was going to happen to me.

Fast forward to Thursday. I went in to work to use the Fitness Center because it is free. I decided I was going to stop and pick up some sushi for the wife and I to eat and be nice. It is weird because I thought to myself that I forgot the coupon so maybe I should just go home by I figured I'd still stop and pick it up any way. When you leave my work there are three lanes you can drive in. Well since it was rush hour the first two lanes were stopped even though the light was green. I was doing 40 miles an hour and was in the third lane. As I came up to the intersection an truck on the opposite side of the road decided to turn through the intersection in front of me. In the blink of an eye I had enough time to either think or say "Oh S H I T" as I hit them head on.

I can't really remember the actual impact but I remember my air bags were deployed and the windshield on the passenger side was shattered. I got out of the vehicle and went to see if the other driver was OK. He said he was fine. I went back and tried to call my wife on the phone to let her know what had happened. I was shaking like crazy and in shock. The paramedics arrived and checked me out and I checked out fine. I just sat there looking at the car shaking my head because that car and I have been thru a lot of close calls and she has kept me safe. The police came up to me and just asked me how fast was I going. I told her 40. She said the other driver is at fault and gave me all the police report info.

This is the first accident I have been in with another vehicle in my entire life. I went to the tow yard to retrieve my belongings out of the vehicle and it was a sad moment. I just hope they can fix her. My insurance company hasn't seen the vehicle but they said based on my description it will probably be totaled. To even piss me off more when I was talking to the tow yard owner he said the other vehicle owner picked his truck up and was telling him that his insurance lapsed and he is uninsured. I have coverage for that and truthfully I just want my baby back.

Here's some pictures of her. She was a 30th Anniversary Chevy Camaro. If cars have souls, hers is good. My wife refused to go look at her at the tow yard and stayed in the car. After the police were done with us the driver of the other vehicle came up to me and said "I took the blame for it". I thought to myself "Dude are you f u c k i n g stupid? Of course it's your fault. You're the a s s h o le who decided to try and make it thru the intersection when I had the right of way.

I'm glad your ok, to echo freebird, never ignore those feelings there is a reason we have them.
What will happen though since the other driver did not have insurance?

Thanks. I have had those feelings my whole life. I had a Benjamin Button experience afterward. I thought if I stayed and the gym and did one more set it wouldn't have happened. I saw a lady walking thru the parking garage as I was leaving that I know and didn't stop to say hi to her, If I did this wouldn't have happened. I also sat in the car contemplating if I should stop and get the Sushi or not and decided to get it, otherwise I would have been behind cars in the other two lanes and wouldn't have went thru the intersection because traffic was backed up. Definitely a strange epiphany.

Not sure. This happened to my step son a couple of years ago. Basically the Insurance Company totaled out his car and went after the Uninsured Driver to get restitution in court. I have to talk to my insurance company to find out tomorrow.

Glad to hear your ok and sorry to hear about your car. You should never question what if.There could have been times when you passed up the extra set or saying hi to someone and by doing so avoided a catastrophic event.

Believe me my mind is still blown by the event. I am still in shock. They gave me Vicodin for the pain and Lorazepam for the anxiety at the hospital but I refuse to take any of it because I don't like being doped up.

My wife and I had another incident that was a close call in that car. I went to pick her up at the Airport one night and as we were driving home we got to our exit ramp but it was closed. Some elderly couple came to a complete stop in front of me on the interstate in my lane and tried to manuveur their vehicle thru the cones. I had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting them. As I was getting ready to go around them into the next lane a 18 wheeler went flying past us and if I would have tried to get over in the lane my wife and I wouldn't be here today. I wanted to drag that elderly couple out of their vehicle and beat their butts. That is also why my wife believes that Camaro is a lucky car.

Thanks all. Same sentiment the wife has also. I think that is why the wife didn't want to look at the car. It makes you think that in a blink of the eye that it can all be over when it is that close to home. When the other driver came up to me after the police finished questioning him I told him the same thing "The good thing is neither of us were hurt" and we both walked away from it. I just ended up with a small bruise on my left arm. We were both very lucky.

It is amazing to think that you take your life into your own hands every time you pull out of the driveway! I'm thankful that you are alright, and that so too is the other individual. Pretty scary stuff. You can drive as defensively and intelligently as you want, but you never know just what the hell those other crazy folks on the road are going to do.

This is my 87 Iroc, worked overtime for a year to buy it and then fixed it up. Sold it to a soldier just back from Iraq for $$$ to fix my leaking roof.

Sucks about the car but it is great that everybody walked away!

Back in 1988 I had my then dream car, a 1984 Mustang GT. I had it painted and put new wheels and tires on it just three months before moving to California. Moved to California on Saturday. Got up and washed to car to perfection Sunday morning then drove down to my new job that I started the next day so I would know the route and not be late. On the way an elderly lady pulled into an intersection just as I entered it... totalled my baby! Reading your account really brought this back, it is an intense shock after going from 40 to zero in just a couple of feet!!!

Like I said, I am glad you are OK. The cars, while close to our hearts, are just cars!!!

One question: Did you get the Sushi?

Very sweet car. We'll see if mine can be fixed. I don't think it looks too good though. If not I'll be getting another Camaro. Hopefully as good as she was

The wife picked the Sushi up the next day for us. I told her Sushi was evil. LOL - I still ate some. Another weird thing is my stepson came to pick me up from the crash scene. As we were driving home there was a Red BMW right on side of us and as I was looking at it we came up to a light and the driver behind her didn't see the light to stop and rear ended her while I was watching. I felt like I was in Bizarro world and was more then happy to get home.

just be glad he took the blame.. a lot of people would try to argue and fight even if they knew they were at fault.. I'm glad you were okay!

Wouldn't have been a problem. The cops questioned him for quite some time and knew he was to blame. Another driver who seen the crash ran up to the police and told them what happened. The police came up to me and asked me one question. How fast were you going? I told her 40 which is what I was doing. She said the other driver said I was speeding. I laughed at her and said you mean to tell me what he is saying is he saw me coming and still decided to run the intersection and cut me off anyhow? Then the officer told me obviously he is at fault and gave me all the police report info. What is even stranger is that when the other driver came up to me afterward to talk to me we both work at the same place but on different shifts.

Sure it can be fixed, my guess is the repairs would be way more than book value though. Don't be afraid to argue with the adjuster about the value, IMO they have quite a bit of leeway when determining the size of the check that is cut.

You're okay, that's the main thing. As for the "What happens from here," type questions, you should confirm whether you carry Uninsured Motorists coverage. If you do, you can most likely make a direct claim against your own insurance company for an injury settlement. That would be a claim for payment of your medical bills, plus your pain and suffering. Your carrier then could subrogate (collect) the ammount they pay to you from the uninsured driver who negligently caused your damages. You may even have a right to request payment for your medical bills from your own carrier if you have "medpay" coverage. Just be advised that if you clear some money for yourself, your own health insurance carrier may have a right to subrogate from you for any money they pay to satisfy your medical bills.

Now that I've given you that free, general overview (not intended as legal advice or to create the existence or expectation of an attorney/client privilege, of course), let me crack wise now:
