Who does arnold presses
I've always done these in my shoulder routine and without fail someone at the gym always tries to tell me how bad they are for me. I've never had a problem and feel they give me a pump unlike anything else through the whole shoulder. Whats everyone elses opinion.

I do them. I start my workout with standing overhead press to hit the front and side delts, then side, rear, and traps with upright rows, then Arnold press for side and front again, then rear delt rows. At that point, my shoulders are almost totally spent but I find energy to do DB raises to finish them off. I'm very happy with the way I train my shoulders and I have yet to experience any problems.

In fact did them yesterday...a la Snake. Seated, dumbells straight down to ground....Zotman (hammer) curl up...rotate to front, knuckes forward...press Arnold style....reverse movement....rep one. All done sorta slow motion.
Question....does Arnold still refuse to take any credit for this movement?

I get to do mine on thursday !
I start my shoulder routine with Arnold presses as heavy as I can go after a warmup set. IMO there is no better way to begin smoking those shoulders. I follow mine with bentover and side lateral raises and then standing rows.
Arnold presses bad for ya ? yeah, if you don't do them LOL. Seriously as with many lifts, form and safety must come first IMO.

I will do them lightly for warmups, but I can't go heavy with them or they tear upi my shoulders.
I have to stay with regular DB presses, but I'm also handling triple digit db's.

They are really hard on your shoulder girdle. You dont wanna go as heavy as you would on normal shoulder presses.
I personally stay away from them because they dont feel comfortable. But if they arent causing any problems go ahead.

Arnold Presses aggravate the tendonitis in my left shoulder, so I stick with standing DB Military Presses.

good for shoulder rehab
I had a rotator cuff injury, no surgury, a little physical therapy (what a waste). I started using machines that constrained motion so I could at least work out the triceps and pecs. After a few weeks I could get back to bench press and I have been doing the Arnold press with dumbels on an incline for a few weeks now. It does work the small muscles of the shoulder too. I can now lift 5 lbs with my right arm extended straight out to the side even with my shoulder without pain. That is qiute an acomplishment! Easy does it is the only thing that is working for me. Of course I healed much faster 10 years ago!
You guys probably know a lot more than I about this stuff. I am just relating my experience with the role of arnold press in my rehab.
By the way, I hurt my shoulder doing flies with too much weight on a cable machine.

i do arnold press never had a problem, but i'd use a seat with a back rest/support, (an incline bench). they are a good exercise to build strength as when your shoulders are spent you cant rely on your legs to give you any momentum before the movement of the arms like you can do with DB shoulder press

I too have a rotator cuff injury I've been carrying for years.
It's the exercise I'm most comfortable with when training shoulders.
I only do Arnold presses, I can't handle bars or side extensions.
And some bend over dumbbell extensions and I'm done with shoulders.
Good for me that my delts are developed from the past or I couldn't do much else about them.
