Did the girls love your accent? I remember being a tourist attraction when I went. A few people wanted to meet me just to hear my accent. One girl reckoned it was the sexiest thing to hear.
Where abouts did you go? I reckon about 80% of people couldnt understand me at all. It was so bad in Virginia. They had no idea what I was saying when I said "do you have the time?". They couldnt understand the word "time" WTF.

I was only like 11 or 12 brah so I can't tell you. I went to NY, California, LA, DC and drove through a bunch of states. I got them in all states (I think) but NY was by far the worst (not knowing accent wise). I can't wait to go back there though, like you said I'm sure it's a bit of a headstart .
I get told my regular australians that i have an australian accent btw.. if that helps knowing the severity of my accent. And yeah it was hard to communicate sometimes, though it was rare in the US. It's really hard with mexicans and the chinese, even when they speak good english.

theres australian, aussie and strine
australian you hear from politicians
aussie you hear at the beach
strine you hear anywhere theres a bogan, an akubra, a holden or falcon v8 ute, a driazbone coat or a cricket match going on.
PS: for american, and brits, strine is aussie slang chat eg: emma chisit = how much is it

Developed over time like every other ex british colony...
At least we pronounce words the way they're spelt mostly not like new zealanders who pronounce an e as an i ;-)

If you run into a bunch of vietnam vets on anzac day, buy em a few beers and listen to them chat for an hour, you'll speak fluent strine after that.
http://www.textfiles.com/humor/strine.txt
theres a book about it called Let Stalk Strine, makes more sense.

Americans are the decendants of the british people who colonised America. How did your accent happen?
Stupid question is stupid.
