Alcohol stories

Anyone here cut their drinking by half (or more) in an attempt to see better results? What's the verdict?

I quit drinking the week before I joined the gym because I thought busting my ass at the gym would be a waste drinking a 12 pack a night. I also quit using tobacco a few weeks in and it seemed to make me stronger.

I am not going to drink on my cut for the next 4 weeks. As it was I only drink once a month or so.. if I'm busting my ass this hard to attain a body I want im not going to **** it up with probably one of the worst things for your metabolism when your trying to lose fat.. or gain muscle for that matter. It all comes down to self-control.

I try to keep it to once a week. It's not so much the alcohol that gives me problems it's the hangover the next day and the desire to eat nothing but pizza and other junk food while recovering from the hangover.

its a combo of many things, when you Drink the alcohol itself is hard on the diet, depending what your drinking you may take a more calories on the mixer too. Also when your pretty hammered who says no to quality joke food after the bar.... the hangover the next day usually you dont eat much or take the day off from the gym.

that being said its still important to maintain a social life for most people so casual drinks here and there are always good to enjoy, But it really does put a hault on progress if you go out and get smashed every friday and saturday

Don't drink much if you can help it. The difference is huge. When you drink, your body cannot store alcohol but must use energy to eliminate it. The problem is that normally the body would use that energy to break down food but when it's trying to dipose of alcohol instead, that is put on hold so there is a greater chance for fat storage.

I have had maybe one or two 64 cal beers a week while I have been cutting. That is all.

Cutting progress- another four pounds since 11/05/09

I research first, then try it out and if it works and I believe in it- I suggest it!

If I am never wrong- then I can never learn.

My opinions are just that- OPINIONS. Anything you decide is ultimately your decision.

Yes, I quit drinking and did see better results. I don't know so much that it was the calories, but my workouts suffer if I drink. Alcohol just doesn't do any good for the body. It can dehydrate you and depletes the body of vitamins and minerals, which really isn't something you want to do when you are trying to lose weight. I have more energy since I stopped drinking.

That's very true. When I'm hungover, I have strong cravings for Mountain Dew (not diet!), pizza, wings, and CHINESE FOOD!!!

If you're bulking, having a few drinks occasionally won't hurt much. It certainly won't help you, though. Goes w/o saying don't drink the night before a workout. Save it for example, a Saturday night if you take Sunday off from the gym.

If you're trying to lose weight, boozing isn't a good idea. Think about it : it's extra calories that will not help you in ANY way. Plus, as people have already mentioned, it can make you feel like **** the next day. If you can have a few drinks the night before a day off maybe once every couple weeks, it won't KILL you, but it will hurt you a bit.

i'm kind of with hellawaits.. i avoid drinking because once i'm moderately buzzed i start not caring about my diet and reaching for any delicious food i can get my hands on

i think i put on a solid 10 pounds of fat last christmas vacation.. 2 weeks off from school, doing nothing but hard drinking and eating

if you are dieting or cutting or whatever there is just no wiggle room for alcohol. my deficit is 500 cals a day and i can easily drink double that in beer on a fun night. just not worth it
