First Fitness Competition - Feeling Lost!!!
I want to do my first fitness competition in November down in NYC (maybe not the best first show but it's the only one that fits in my schedule this year) and I'm not sure what my next move is. I have the gymnastics and most of the mandatory moves and I know how to diet. I don't know where to get music from or who to turn to for a routine. I'm also not sure where to get decently priced posing suits or a suit for the routine. I've competed gymnastics for many years so once I get a routine I know how to get myself ready. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks!

First off congrats on making this decision!!!
I would suggest going to the cheermusicstore.com, they have TONS of good mixes with sound effects from $4 - $20. As far as who to help you with designing your routine I would suggest someone like Nicole Duncan. She is IFBB fitness pro and is extremely affordable (compared to others). I think she charges $400 a routine. As far as costume I would suggest looking for a used costume on www.proconsignonline.com or www.divaexchange.
I also do suits so if you want to purchase a new or used suit or even a rental I can help you there.
Good Luck!!!

Thanks for the information! There's so much to it! And on top of me trying to get everything together, people are telling me that I would be better for bodybuilding then fitness. I have a lot more fun tumbling, but a couple people tell me that my upperbody is too big and that I'd have to lose 30lbs, which to me is too much weight to lose. I'm going to keep going forward with fitness and see how it goes and then take it from there. Thanks again!

Competitions in LatAm/Colombia
Is your cousin male or female?
I, too, would love to know if there are any. I'll be moving to Colombia in 3 weeks and, although have never competed, think it may be a great way to get to the next level.
Thanks.

hey i am also a former competitive gymnast, and i was watching fitness routines online last night (procrastinating studying). i really want to compete in fitness because i LOVE tumbling and such but will never have time or money to do it.
anyway...i still go to tumbling every week at a cheeleading gym (ah! blasphemy!). but i was thinking that if i showed a bunch of the fitness routines to my coach he could probably come up with some kind of routine for me to do. it seems perfect to me. they understand music, dance, AND tumbling. just need to give them some direction as far as requirements. A lot of cheer coaches are expensive but if you know somebody, it should be cheap, or free!

that is a brilliant idea, that will work. even a cheer gym, hahahaha, how goes it???? Must be a bit....um.......oh very cheery I bet!!! Being an ex gymnast myself, although I was a basic beginning with very limited tumbling, I laugh at the comment......and so get it!! but good for you, you do what you need.
Make sure to make use of online resources, I have several free ones and it will help you with the planning stages.

being in a cheer gym is so weird! im like where is the vault-my favorite?? we were always told at my gym that if we even thought about being cheerleaders we would get kicked out. that was in middle school! i guess i have been brainwashed by my former gym coaches.
quick question to those who know....what is the floor surface for fitness comps? i read somewhere that some have a rubber floor overlay. are they different for different comps? at all springy?

springy? oh your funny, your lucky if your stage isn ot put togetehr by boxes.............it all depends on the theater and the promoter.......I have done routines on cement floor.........usually its stage hard wood type floors..........hence my loose wrists/elbows and joints and shoulders from all the landings.......some have them in highschool auditoriums, some use stages put together............if you know the venue for the show you want to do, you can visit it if its local and check out the floor or email then for pics/description......

Actually Cathy refers her gals out to 4 suit people and changes them every once in awhile. I was extremely fortunate that she added me to her list this year. I think her list is:
Suit by Amy
Passion Fruit
Sylvia Trembely
Go Figure by Tamee Marie (me)
The floors change from venue to venue but none of them or "springy" or "tumbling friendly". I just did NPC fitness nationals and was told I had too much tumbling and need to have more dance and strength moves. I believe they are encouraging less gymnastics to make the sport more appealing to those who have never been gymnasts before.
I think your body isn't too muscular, I think when you are posing just don't flex and you should be fine.
