I just got lucky!
wow so i went to an interview at pure fit and GOT THE JOB! i am a personal trainer!
The thing is I am very nervouse because I am not CERTIFIED! AHH
Basically I will be shadowing a co-worker tomarrow for 2 hours then I have to take my boss through a work out next week, and I am very nervouse because for one I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCE TRAINING!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give me helpful tips on how to walk them through a workout.... and what type of workout I should take them through and good ways to motivate them on their way through the workout.
THANK YOU!

ONE MORE THING. I was thinking about taking them through a push pull routine with machines... two sets per excercise - 10-12 reps upper body, 12-15 lower body...
sounds like thats on the right track?

Oh boy - I honestly don't think you should be training clients with no education/experience.
Depending on the goal, you can take him through different programs. If it's a "beginner" situation, I'd recommend a total body workout involving 12-15 repetitions, 6-8 exercises for 2 sets. Hopefully there won't be any present injuries - all the best buddy.

Wow man...congrats on getting the job!
Ever been trained yourself?
Or set up a workout schedule for yourself?
Or had one set up for you?
Do they understand then that you are just starting?
I'd read up on some basic work out sets....
Search forums for some basics...

Best of luck man - just read as much articles/books as you can.
I would say your best bet is taking them through machines, start with the largest muscle groups first, and slowly break it to smaller muscles. If their goal is just general fitness, or weight loss - I would recommend a circuit program (exercise after exercise, with minimal/no rest in between). And hey, if you ever forget what the machine does, you can just read the little label on it

thank you guys for the replys!
i have a workout in mind after shadowing my boss today... my main concern is before the workout begins when you have to inform the person how the workout is doen correctly in a professional manner... lol because you cant just tell some one to sit down on the fly machine and go at it... i want to be able to tell them correctly how to do it so i sound like i know what im doing, na mean? lol
so what im doing now is going over basic excercises like leg machines/chest/shoulders/ and back

Check to see if Pure Fit will pay for a more advanced certification, in part or whole. This will make you more marketable and the in-house certification may be based on ACE/NASM/etc. and you'll already have some of the study materials.

Whenever I train a client I always make sure the client knows what I'm doing.
1. Build Rapport with the client
2. Verbally talk about the exercise, and the muscle groups worked & demonstrate the exercise
3. If there's any special notes about the exercise, mention them before hand
4. Tell them the repetition range, where they should be feeling it and WHY they're doing this specific exercise
5. Don't forget the tempo (1 up, 3 down - whatever you want to say)
6. Let them try the exercise, and verbally guide them through the exercise.
7. Show them where they should be feeling it, dumb the terms down. Don't say Biceps Brachii and expect them to know it - just say the front of your upper arm.
8. Just keep talking to them, try to avoid silent situations - throw everything you got and let your boss know you're the right person for the job.
Oh by the way - a personal trainer in my gym failed the test because he didn't mention anything about a warm-up (and the benefits) and a quick cooldown/stretch after the workout. You may not need to physically go through it, but it's good to mention it. Before it starts, build up rapport by asking them for past/present injuries, what they do for fun and whatever - just relate to them!

i did average 4.5 gpa so i guess my smarts paid off.

IMO the most important any personal trainer needs to have is empathy for their clients. Regardless of who they are and who you are you need to be able to put yourself in their shoes. Pretend you were in their situation and train them how you would like to be trained.
If they aren't giving you the necessary feedback, ASK THEM. Don't assume anything if you're wondering about it because next thing you know, they leave because you didn't do something that you should have asked about.

Sorry, but how did you get employed by them when you aren't even certified?!... Sounds kinda desperate on their behalf.
If you honestly don't know what you're doing, just settle down for a second and pull your head in. Get your certification and learn, before you get sent straight into the belly of the beast.

know what ya mean... plus when I do train people I want to be totally confident in what I am doing. I know If i trained someone they would be able to tell that I am unsure of what I am doing.
what is a good cert that I can get in about 2-3 mo.?

Are you working at Pure Fit or Pure Fitness??? Anyway, learn as much as you can from the trainers here, learn as much as you can from the trainers at your gym, and try to get certified from a reputable certifying agency as soon as possible.

Just wait until they make you go to the apex class and make you learn a long sales pitch word for word. Also have fun feeling like a janitor as they constantly make you clean.

Maybe learn from trainers here but be cautious of the trainers at your gym. Please don't learn from anyone in the same boat as you as I'm sure you're not out there teaching anyone yet.
Read a book on program design. MASTER a handful of exercises and wait until you're confident to stray and get creative.
From your enthusiasm I really think you'll end up being a good trainer. Just keep it up!

One of the reasons why I was hired becuase I learned the sales pitch in an hour, when it normally takes 2 weeks to learn, and they said I have the look of a pt.
They seem to have confidence in me, I just hope I do well.
