home made trap bar help
HI GUYS
I'm looking around and asking here for basic measurements for those who have one
I got tired looking for measurementsa at company sites
I have tons of materals , and my welding stopped by today and he said in about 4 -5 weeks .
i figure 12-15 inches long , each side for the load bar
grip bars 20-22 inches apart - length 18 inches ?
now what about the <-l-l-> shape ? for width and length of yours?
im 6-1 285 do you FIT inside nice ? or is it a bit tight ?
just basic "'s like 60 inches point to point and 24 " wide .
NO rush , i will make a prototype from cardboard and see how i fit
Thanks GUYS

Brutus, I can get you pics and measurements of mine, which is a mega shrug bar with a hex cage. It is a bit bigger than normal and weighs 75lbs with longer sleeves.
I'll have to do it later because I'm watching football right now and that's more important than helping my e-friends......... .
Seriously, I'll get it at half-time.
Also, if you're going to go to the trouble of making it yourself, make sure you make it long so it will fit in your rack.....wish mine did, but wish in one hand and.......nevermind.

hey everybody, wassup? i didn't watch football today- just hoped for the best for michigan. haven't even checked it yet- but i will in a minute.
mowed the lawn for the last time and bagged leaves. took 4 hours or so. i also made a small box to deadlift from (about 4"). time to hit the shower and cook some steaks.

that sucks for iowa. i'd have thought they could handle northwestern.
i think lsu will pull it out, i'm gonna turn some football on now.
everyone fell asleep when i was in the shower- my wife and kids are sleeping on the couch with spongebob on the tv. no sense in cooking dinner right now- unless i want to eat 6 ny strips. actually, that doesn't sound like a bad thing to attempt.

You don't even understand my friend.........they're almost all down now and I have yet to clean any up (its really not worth it at my place until they're all just about down). There is about a foot of leaves surrounding my vehicles in the driveway. We start the journey tomorrow and will probably finish Wednesday.........then do round two next week........then maybe a third depending...............then again in the spring.
I love my woods, but this is the price I pay.

Well.....tOSU should've been able to handle Purdue and shouldn't have beat themselves when they let USC take away the win.........but its football and anything can happen.......and usually does!

Whats going on e-bro's.
Looks like everyone has been busy.
Congrats C5vette.Always good posts from you so glad to have ya aboard.
Brutus that bar looks like a beast.
Well its decision time,I'm gonna finish out this month on 5/3/1 then decide whether to stay with it.It seems like I'm actually going backwards with it.I might be in the same boat as Jfindon,I've been doing a lot of volume for so long that I don't think this program has enough of it for me. I'll see what week 3 next week brings.Might be time to try 5x5.
The new bench is awesome, very sturdy and the height is perfect.Glad I got it.
Hog flu is going around our area like crazy, lot of kids out from school.Good thing my little one isn't old enough yet.

Hey Captain, good to here the bench is up to par......looked good, would've hated to see it not work out!
Almost forgot, added my last two workouts a little bit ago.....today's was a marquee day for me.....deadlifted 365x 1 for a PR............got mad about not counting the plates right so I threw 15lbs more on there and did 380x 1 for another PR!!!!!!
Good day, eh?

hey capt'n. glad you're doing all right- my kids have been sick, my wife is sick, i'm not yet. no fever for any of them, i'm sure it's just a cold. i usually don't catch what they've got, and i've got my fingers crossed now.
what kind of assistance are you doing with the 5/3/1? i've been doing well on it for almost the whole year, but i never got into the real high volume. i do more assistance than the book calls for, though, i usually throw in some extra trap/shoulder work.
great job on the deadlift, keetman!

I`m on my new blackberry now .never had one so I hope this works.I was doing more assistance than what was listed but switched back to the triumverate this month to see if it made a difference.i`ve made some progress with shoulder presses and squats but I think the squats are because I finally got my form correct then the actual5/3/1 program . I don't know. For example before I started this I was benching 225x6x3 now I have trouble getting 225 up 3 times after doing 5reps and 3 reps on the first 2 sets

do you have a log on here? if not, try to post up a couple workouts- or just pm them to me. i just wanna see how you've got it all set up. my first two "work sets" are really just the getting me ready for the last set. are you going for as many reps as possible on the last set?
i know that it's not working for jfindon, it could be the case for you as well. there are some logs in the pl training logs section where people are using 5/3/1 for some lifts and different programs for others. guess it's all about what works for you, nothing works for everyone, right?

Back on the PC now. Here is what I've done this week.
Shoulder press** 115x3,130x3,150x5 assistance=dips-bw x10x5,wide chins bw x6x5
Deads** 215x3,250x3,280x5 assis=rev flye 15x10x5,standing calf 180x15x5
bench(today)** 165x3,190x3,210x6 assis=inc db press 40x12x5,db row 30x15x5
squats tomorrow will be 130x3,150x3,165x? assis=goodmornings 65x10x5,shrugs 180x10x5 but like I said,I really can't judge from squats because the form correction has made these seem easy.

hmmm. that's about how i've got mine set up.
when you say you were stronger, did you warm up and go right to the heaviest set? maybe the way it's got you going from 165 to 190 to 210 just takes it out of you. how long have you been on 5/3/1? i remember you saying you were gonna give it a shot, just can't remember how long ago it was.
if the ramp up is what is making you feel weaker, i think that's how it was for me, too, at first. i didn't know for sure if i liked it, but i ran a couple cycles before i maxed and was happy.

This is my fourth month but actually only the third as far as the weight is concerned.I had to repeat month 2 because of that training I had in sept.My warm-ups for every exercise consists of what he suggested 40%x5,50%x5,and 60%x3 then right into the working sets.
My old program was 2 or 3 warm-up sets then right into it with the weights I gave you for an example(225x6x3).
I will probably give it 1 more month because I really like the program, but after that if I don't see some improvement from this month I'll have to change

finish up this run, and take a week to max (or just jump up to the highest work set- rep max) before you follow the deload week. you might be surprised- i think the first two work sets are taking some off of your heaviest one.

yea, i'd just go back to how you used to warm up or whatever. you might be able to get a few more reps than you used to. let me know how it goes for you, alright?
