Quest from weakling to beast
Well, beast is a relative term, beast compared to what I'm at now anyway.
Keeping things simple, i'm 148lbs. I competed in a PL meet a little over a month ago and totaled 639 (226/121/292). Decided it's time to stop dicking around and get to the 1k mark. My next meet, which is on February 13th, seems a bit too close to hit 1k. Ideally I want to fix all form issues I have and hit 325/210/420 which is a 975 total.
So to wrap things up, here's what I wanna fix from here on out.
1. Stop ****ing around with BB routines trying to coax size out of my 148lb frame.
2. Stick to a program until I start to plateau and evaluate the best step from there.
3. Eat like a madman and take advantage of the fact that it's winter.
A week ago I started SS and hope to ride out the fast progression for as long as possible before having to switch to a program that is slower. So far here are the 2 workouts that I've completed on the program
10-28
Squat-
2x5@45
1x5@65
1x3@100
1x2@135
3x5@170lbs
Bench-
2x5@45
1x5@50
1x3@70
1x2@90
3x5@105
Deadlift
2x5@135
1x3@155
1x2@225
1x5@260
10-30
Squat
2x5@45
1x5@70
1x3@105
1x2@140
3x5@175
Press
2x5@45
1x3@50
1x2@60
2x5@75
1x3@75 (hur dur whoops)
Power Clean
2x5@45
1x5@55
1x3@70
1x2@85
5x3@100
I'll update this at least every MWF if not more often.

Ugh, what a way to start a log.
11-2
I went to buy a car, paperwork took longer than expected so I couldn't make it to the gym before it closed.
11-3
Decided to skip squats today and save it for tomorrow, focus on my deads and flat bench.
Deads went like this
2x5@135
1x3@160
1x2@225
1x5@270
Good news. Easy as hell, weight didn't slow down even on the last rep, felt like I had another 3 reps or 15lbs in me.
Bad news. Right before my working set, personal trainer comes up to me and says we're no longer able to use chalk, despite using it for the past 4 months personally, as well as my lifting partners using it for 2 years. New guy, guess he had an issue with other people using it and they put a ban on it. So I just left after that, didn't even get to bench.
Now I dunno what to do, deadlifting was my favorite lift by far.

Just keep doing it and be as un-messy as possible. Its probably always been a rule just not enforced and he's too stupid to realize that. My old gym didn't allowe it but I had a job interview with chalk on my hands and got the job, and yet some morons still tell people to put it away. Nowadays at my new gym I just chalk my hands before I walk into the weight room, and hope it lasts

Went to the gym today after school just to talk to the head manager. I told him my concerns with the usage of chalk being banned and he said it was a sanitary issue and they could be closed down if it's reported that they are allowing chalk. So definitely no chalk, gotta find a new gym before Friday. Today I'm going in and squatting/benching so it doesn't matter.

....Gotta say bad move. Gyms have millions of rules, and the managers aren't going to sit there and tell you you can break them. Its more of a don't ask don't tell laziness thing. Having been a member of 9 gyms now I will say zero allow chalk, but zero will really enforce it if you are sneaky. Maybe 1 out of a million attempts to get in you'll get talked to.
He also flat out lied to you, do you honestly think department of health will shut down a gym if they hear that some kid used chalk for his deadlifts?

No I actually don't believe that it was that big of a deal. However, the employees at the gym are consistently walking around to clean up leftover weights on bars/machines and will/have hassled us about the chalk the past 2 times we've used it until the decision became official. No big deal really, i'd rather not have to worry about them breathing down my back if I can lift at a gym that officially allows chalk. For months it's been don't ask don't tell, and thats what we even said to the employee who made an issue and brought it to the managers attention, but now its become a gym-wide thing.
Workout went great tonight, I'm going to skip my warmup sets in my logs from now on.
Squat
180x3x5
Easy stuff on the squat, didn't slow down till the last rep.
Bench
110x3x5
Fairly hard, last set went easier than the first two though.
Power cleans
Attempted 105 and was so fatigued that I couldn't get the speed to bring it up. Dropped down to 85 and did
85x2x5

Thanks a lot, and I'm hoping to!
It's different, more equipment in one way, less in another. No dedicated deadlift platform, just thick solid rubber mats. Squat racks are different so it's gonna take some getting used to, but they're wider and less cluttered. Best of all...as much chalk as you wanna use, go for it. Great stuff.
