Looking for a guitar

I would like to buy a guitar for my brother in law for his birthday. He is a huge pearl jam fan. Any ideas or suggestions on what guitar? He is just learning to play btw

how much you willing to drop for him? electric or acoustic.

I'd just google best beginner guitars, if hes just learning i wouldn't spend to much 250-300 at most really.

That's a nice gesture, brah, but I'd caution against it. A guitar is something a person wants to pick out on their own. How about a gift certificate.

I would love it if my parents would buy me a new drum kit, but at the same time wouldn't like it. Playing an instrument has a lot to do with feel and tone. If you pick out a guitar that doesn't feel or sound right to him for his style of play then it'll just sit and you would have wasted your money.

As for gift certificates I would check out Guitar Center. They've always got awesome discounts and carry most brands available. Their customer service is also some of the best I've ever received in a music store.

if i remember correctly most of the rhythm work in pearl jam was done with a les paul and the majority of the leads with a strat

This is solid advice. A Mexican strat or Epi Les Paul can be a decent starter guitar but it really up to the player to decide what they want.

mexican strat is a fantastic beginner guitar lol mine was a $100 piece of crap
