First dog? Or have you had dogs before? Those are great dogs, but if you've never had a dog before go with something like a lab or a pointer.

Field spaniel? They're kinda rare in the US, but we had one and he was the best dog we ever had. Not aggressive, but careful of strangers. Awesome with children and super smart.

erm collie?
anyway, JRT's are large rats, not dogs. pains in the arse most of the time. or is it the owners? no i take it back, its not the dogs faults. for some reason people think that because its small and cant do all that much damage, it can be badly trained.
OP, as its your first dog my honest advice is take a dog that you can physically handle should you need too, one that wont have the tendancies to be aggressive should you mess up the training. something like... a labrador or golden retriever, pointer was a very good shout. the best dog in terms of learning and being well tempered was/is a cross between a collie and a JRT.

If you don't adopt/rescue a dog and you could've and you choose to pay alot of $$ for them. Your a douchebag just sayin
But OP I've never had one but people I know who've had doberman pinscher's say they are good dogs.

Yeah, that's true. Another reason people go wrong with any dog is lack of exercise. If a dog isn't getting it, it'll find a way to be destructive.
Mine gets plenty of exercise though. We usually do 2 miles around the neighborhood and she loves tennis balls, so I'll throw until she gets tired.
Labs are good too. Black labs with the shiny coat, that are in shape are absolutely beautiful. Smart as sh** too.
