I'm happy to be a fan of a sports team that is willing to do what it takes to get to the championships.
And everyone griping about payroll forgets that the Yankees also pay the highest luxury tax and revenue sharing to other teams than any other team in pro sports. Really, teams like the Pittsburgh Pirates must love the Yankees for all the $$$ it sends their way in free luxury tax earnings.

pirates are a great example to use of some higher ups that really could care less if they win or lose. It's pretty obvious to most people.

dude who cares its a business, its just like saying why does Microsoft win so many awards or something, because its a business and they have the money to be successful. any team that could do what the yankees do would do it in a heartbeat and if it was your team you wouldn't care one bit.

Thats the problem with baseball right there. The Yankee's(and a few other teams) can afford to make mistake afte mistake, because they can continue to throw money at it. Most teams would be hurt for years with mistakes(bad free agent signings) like the Yankees have done.

Yet the Yankees DECREASED their payroll last year, and will shed another 20-30 mill. this year. Soon the payroll excuse will be no more.

Matsui
Pettitte
Nady
They will either leave or take a pay cut. Pettitte will probably make the same amount of $$$.
Good time to root for the Yanks.

Mets fan here - was a pain to watch the World Series. Congratulations to the Yankees and as much as I hate to say, they deserved it.
For the first time in a long time, I felt like I was watching a Yankees TEAM on the field rather than a group of individuals.

Please - I'm a Mets fan. We have just as much money to spend. What do we have to show for it?

Bad GM running the team. The NFL has it right, every team is on equal ground.

Must be hard man, watching the Phillies than the Yanks win it. But at least you got hope. 3/4 of the Mets team were injured and they still played ok for the most part, plus you'll have a low pick in the draft.
Could be worse.

Go Yanks! They did it, they deserve the credit, quit hating. The other thing to keep in mind, is that no matter how much money the spend, money does not build camraderie! CC Sabathia brought that team together, period.
Furthermore, I have no problem admitting that I came out of the womb wearing a yankees hat.

If you paid attention to the Pirates, you would see that they cleaned house as far as upper management goes a year or two back. Take a look at their farm system now. They have SERIOUS talent down there, and it's a shame that the "Dave Littlefield Era" set them back literally ten years. In a few years, we're looking at a potential line up of McCutcheon, Iwamura/Ford, Jones, Alvarez, Tabeta, Sanchez/Doumit, Hernandez, LaRoche. They're not spending a ton of money on big names, but why should they right now? They are rebuilding the right way this time. If you paid attention to their recent moves and the development of their farm system, you would see the light. Jones, McCutcheon, Tabeta, Alvarez, and Hernandez are all All-Star talent. Mark my words - Pedro Alvarez will have 30 HR's in his first full season in the big leagues.
The Pirates are my favorite team, and I agree that they made some horrible mistakes in the past, but in a few years, it'll be history.

Paaaaaaaaaast. They've spent quite a bit of money on draft picks the past few years. They recently just bought a decent sized contract (Iwamura). I said that the Dave Littlefield Era was horrible, but it's over. Their new management is taking them in the right direction, and I honestly can't wait to see the team they have a few years from now.
