Gah...I'm worried.
Yea, yea, "It's just high school, don't sweat!"
Well hear me out.
I'm a senior in high school and college applications are right around the corner, but it seems I'm not too of a promising student.
Well, first off I live in Oklahoma, and I'm Asian.
I plan on attending an out of state college, I'm looking more towards the following:
Stanford
USC
UC Berkley
Yale
Any Ivy League
Michigan University
I also wish to major in Political Science and go through with the Pre-Law curriculum.
I wonder though, if with my current grades and additional information, if I have a shot at attending a few of the above.
**Hopefully, if a college recruiter sees this, to not see it as a lack of confidence, I don't need any more demerits!***
4.54 Weighted
3.82 Unweighted
SAT
Out of 3 times, my highest subscores are,
Critical reading: 640
Math: 680
Writing: 570**
**Oddly enough, my writing score is horrid. It's strange as I am able to write a beautiful essay (8/12 or 9/12 mostly), yet my writing score is complete crap.
ACT
Best sub scores
English: 30
Math: 32

Key Club (12th; based upon community service)
Student Council (10th-12th)

*There may be a few others, but those are more than likely of less significance

...I doubt being Asian will benefit me.
If anything, any other minority race would look better on my resume due to *affirmative action* (more than likely the point system is allocated as opposed to quotas)

Well, sorta.
Let's just say my family is well off enough to be cut off the financial aid wagon, yet not well enough to pay 150grand for school in a heartbeat.

You won't get into the Ivy League schools but I think the UC schools would fit well for you. USC is definitely possible, UMich shouldn't be a problem getting into.

 bummer.
Well, would it be a waste of time to even apply to any of the Ivy Leagues?
As in all honestly, I feel I can excel in Political Science/Pre-Law, even with the Ivy League standards.

You can still apply obviously, I'm just saying they would be a reach. But you never know. Also, if you want to eventually go to law school go with a business major not political science. Political science is a useless major IMO..

Well, it seems political science is the most viable with the pre-law curriculum though.

Yea, I guess I've come to accept that.
Think UC Berkley is in my grasp?
And in your opinion will USC probably let me in?
Not sure if I should raise my hopes up.

you seem like a pretty good candidate for any UC, but your SAT and ACT would probably catch their eyes as being curiously lacking

Don't remeber my hs gpa, as I've been out of hs for more than 3 years... Anyway I ended up going to uc davis, and had friends that had way better scores and gpa than me and didn't get in... It really also matters how well you do on your admission essays and/or interview... If you've lived through something unique or overcame certain hardships in life, you're ahead of the competition even if they have better scores
edit: also note to op, several applying freshmen have said that uc's have severely raised their expectations for applying freshmen... Might be easier going to a JC for 2 years and then getting a transfer to the school of your choice instead of just going to whatever uc will take you... not trying to discourage you, just saying there are other options

In all honesty, your test scores are going to hurt you. You will be compared with other Asians at the national level and with your fellow students at the local level. Given that most Asian applicants fall in the 50th percentile or higher, you will find yourself at a significant disadvantage relative to your peers; moreover, your scores don't even pass the 25th percentile mark, which is a critical threshold.
So, it's going to be a big reach for the Ivy League schools and Ivy League equivalents (MIT, Caltech and Stanford).

You sound like a phaggot, your test scores do not match the schools you've chosen, absolute gpa doesn't mean anything, class rank is a much better indicator, and your extracurriculars are worthless. Everyone has that stupid **** about key club and low level positions in random crap.

Take the SATs/ACTs again, your scores are not competitive. Top tier schools care much more about those than they do GPA.

Lol at "National Honor Society"
That club is the most complete bs club ever. Its members think they are somehow in a prestige fraternity, but when in reality they are constantly sucking the schools ****.
Btw op. Join an athletic team if you can. I believe that will finally put you over the top. Don't despair if you cannot get into Harvard or any of those Ivy Leagues. They are just schools built on reputation. A doctor graduated from Harvard is not going to know a secret undiscovered vein than a doctor from University of South Florida Medical school. You know what i'm saying?
