Because I have nothing better to do with my time. I was under the assumption that the rest of the forum had something meaningful to do.

Yeah, no big deal man. Things are pretty tight around here with respect to that issue. Pain in the ass for all of us. (posters and mods)

Nah, I'm sure we're all just slacking off at work. Since TUF has given us so little to talk about, may was well talk about the great "giant" hope that is marcus jones.

I do miss the section, I felt my posts in there were my only real contribution to this forum. Now I'm just another guy wasting time.

I like the guy, he seems really cool, but I don't think he'll make it big in the UFC (or make it at all). I hope he does.

1yr of training and I think he'd give Mir a tough fight. Not to mention Cro Cop, Barry, Eilers, Hardonk...
If anything, given the current lineup, Jones deserves a contract just as much as anyone else (maybe I should wait to see his next fight before I talk?).

Mir is better at every aspect of MMA. Jones won't learn to be as good of a striker as Mir in a year and he won't beat Mir on the ground.
I'm not even sure how you figure all of this. Is it just because he is big and athletic?

Yeah, pretty much... That's why I said maybe I should wait to see his 2nd fight.
I said Mir because he's show great weakness vs. size/strength advantage.

just once succumbing to the bigger stronger guy who is one of the best wrestlers to ever get in the octagon does not show a weakness to the bigger strong advantage

His gameplan was weak in both matches. I understand he isn't the KO king, but he really should have avoided the takedown as much as possible. Yeah, I understand Brock is probably as good as it's going to get as far as wrestling skill (maybe aside from couture), but he didn't even look like a fighter in either match and we're talking about a guy that's been training since 12yrs old.

how exactly do you avoid brock lesnar's takedowns?
that is like trying to dodge a 75mph tank

Throw punches at him? That seems to stop him from coming forward thus far.

I really do think that getting in range and throwing solid shots will still rattle Brock a little bit. F*ck the kicks, just get inside and throw big punches like Mir did, and I'm betting he will shy back until he has the space to go for his TD. It's not great but it's slightly more predictable. I think if Carwin can press him without getting put on his back straight away, he could fluster him.
Or maybe he'll run into a canned ham. I wonder if this fight will even happen now.

Right.. but if he was actually technically good at BJJ he wouldn't have laced his arm around the back of the head in the first place. It has nothing to do with jitters.. if you practice something enough it becomes automatic. That's just noobish.
And about jitters, etc.. a professional fighter doesn't get "jitters" like that. That's why we have an amateur system, to give the fighter enough experience to be able to walk into the cage and compete without being mentally overwhelmed. That's my opinion, anyway.
From what I saw his technique looked awful... the armbar was even pretty bad. He's just strong enough to hold the guy's arm in place while he throws his leg over. It wasn't "slick" by any means. That said, it was very effective, and he will be a difficult fighter to beat. But not from a technical standpoint anyway.

So while he may be effective because of his athleticism and size, he's not technically very good.. his striking is pure garbage too.
That said he will beat a lot of guys in the house.

Agreed, which is sad to me. I expect skills in BJJ if you come from ATT (even if it's a satellite school), but he needs to work that stand up. With his height he could decide which range he might want to fight in, not just rush in to take it to the ground.
But, I liked him for the personality he showed. Plus I'm biased to comic book readers lol.

he explained why did it in interview something alon the lines as it causes his opponent to flatten out and give up back or something.
either way he won in convincing fashion, I'm not going to make any judgments until he fights a few more times and don't think anyone else should either.
