CORE Training - Living With Obesity At 700 Calories Per Day!
Consider a common female client. She's a woman about 5'5 and 185 pounds. A combination of a mostly sedentary lifestyle, quick-fix, processed foods and consistent excessively low calories. See an example of American life that is taking over our society.

Thank you!
How often do I try to explain this to my family members and people that come into my club! This was an excellent article, well-written, succinct, and honest. I forwarded the link to everyone!

Living With Obesity At 700 Calories Per Day!
I was really surprised by this article. It was easy to understand and it made me think of my own eating habit history. How I wish I knew about this stuff before my roller coaster ride. (I'm stable now) I can see that when one is raised in a family/culture on poor eating habits that getting control of one's body becomes a downward spiral. One must look at themselves and their habits with brutal honesty before they can begin to make a change. If you don't learn good eating habits from home, you can choose to remain ignorant, or educate yourself elsewhere. This is not an easy transition, and many people, I think, become so attached to their eating habits, that the idea of changing can be scary and mentally painful. Education, for me, is the key, along with patience and faith in a long-standing proven method.

That women is so me!!!
I feel really bad about it but I consume and have been consuming for about 3+ months just 300-320 calories per day. I don't exercise much at all at the moment, just 100 situps per day but will be a lot more active once I start work and uni in september. I know how bad crash dieting is for me but i can't stop. I weigh 126lbs and really want to get back to my lowest weight of 90lbs that i weighed last November. After continuous binges I gained 54lbs - now have begun losing the weight again though its taking a lot of time. I lose about a pound per week, but some weeks nothing at all. I'm always dieting since the age of about 10 and so think my body is way too messed up to be sorted out now. I hope that once I get to that weight I will slowly and very gradually bring my calorie intake up to around 1000 and stick to that. Then hopefully I won't gain the weight back.

Good One
Too many women try to STARVE OFF bodyfat, only to burn off muscle, lower metabolism, and NEVER achieve the fat loss they desire

been there done that
For my whole college career + a little more (about 5 yrs) I was consuming probably an average of 500 cals a day. I had no idea because I didn't keep track of calories then but once I found thedailyplate.com last May '08, after apparently starving myself for 5 yrs, I realized what I'd done to myself.
Unlike the article, I was never obese because I have always been very active, working out heavily 5-6 days a week. My weight fluctuated heavily between 130-145, never able to reach my ideal weight of 125-127. I couldn't figure out how I could work out so much and eat so little and not look like my skinny friends who ate unhealthy and never exercise. I also developed major health problems that mimicked hypothyroidism but my doctors were baffled everytime my thyroid tests came back normal as to the cause of my problems.
I recommend this article to everyone I know who has been through the same thing. It's a very confusing and frustrating situation trying to convince yourself to eat more to weigh less especially when you see the scale rapidly increase by several lbs in such a short time. I am currently at month 4 of eating around 1300-1600 calories and doing an hour of cardio 5-6 days a week and weight training 3 of those days. I began at 135lb and gained 5lb within the first 2 weeks and have been stuck around 140 (28% body fat) for 4 months now. My trainer keeps telling me to be patient and that I will see results over time. I make myself read this article anytime I get frustrated with my stagnant weight and am tempted to go back to my old habits.

yes I'm wondering this, since my thyroid went hypo I've been trying to lose weight. I've been low carbing for over 2 months with hardly any loss. I've been told i don't eat enough (about 1000 calories a day), but I'm not starving, never eaten so much! If anything I'm uncomfortably stuffed all the time. Just can't eat anymore.
I keep hearing about starvation mode, but this calories in calories out idea pops up too. How do I know who is right?

Interesting
I would say that this girl actually describes me. I have BMI of 39, and I consume in one week equivilant to what my husband eats in one day. I am going to try it out, but I am not sure how it is going to work. I am not starving myself because I eat when I am hungey and only when I am hungry. I hate the feeling of my stomach being full, so most of the time I only eat until the pang has subsided. The odd time I will binge because it is something that I really like that I do not get very often, ie seafood.
My diet consists of very few meats, mostly chicken and I love my veggies, so that part is not very valid.
