Dude, i'm not trying to be a prick...i'm honestly not.....just giving my opinion on this topic just as you are....again, never have had a problem with any religious practice....all that i have a problem with is waking up one morning to a door knock and some douchebag that i've never met asks ''are yee saved son? Because if not thou shalt burn like barbecued sausage in HELL!". That kinda crap. Trying to push beliefs on the rest of society IS what starts alot of crap, like you've said....i've been overseas and have witnessed it first hand, as well as alot of other iraq vets. Again, if i do burn in hell.....if there is a hell.....then ok. If i go wherever, then thats where i go.....like was posted before, all anyone can do is live a good honest life and if there is someone or something to judge us at the end, let it be what it will.

Not sure either...I love talking about things with ETERNAL significance. Don't get me wrong, it's great to discuss the day-to-day grind and it is important as well, but everything is so A.D.D. these days that you can never have a deep discussion. You know I love talking to you about this stuff!

My grandfather gave up Judaism after seeing some really nasty things in Aushwitz, like his baby sister being swung by her feet and having her head slammed into a wall to her death. Thus, until someone witnesses these unhumanly acts like you have during wartime, they cannot judge you at all.

That's exactly what i mean....a belief should never contribute to that kind of violence and just nasty torture.....but it does everyday, which is why even if i ever did practice a certain religion, i'd keep it totally to myself......
very sorry to hear that marc.

I understand, it is awkward, and some do push the fact onto you rather than encourage, but some are very serious about hell, as the bible states it is worst than anything you can possibly imagine and describes it as a lake of fire (and various other things) I just dont want to see anybody go their, and I believe in it very much. I am not the type who follows along with other people, but I feel God following with me everyday keeping me straight and I try to give back by spreading his word as he wants, and I try to do it by not pushing my religious beliefs, but moreso to help people eternally burn in the most horrible place.

With all due respect (honestly), what are the basis for those views that you have stated? When it comes down to it, are those just something you thought up, or logicized based on how you were raised? I am not trying to be sarcastic, I am genuinely asking and I respect and thank you for your input. This discussion rocks and is always civil in this thread!

It comes from my love and relationship with God and his Son; not a religious one, but rather a spiritual one. I just refuse to believe that God has amny of the psychological failings that we humans do. I don't think that an omnipotent being needs his ego stroked. He knows all, therfore he knows he is all powerful, all knowing, and ALL LOVING. Saying that he would not accept those who do good works while living a good life, because they didn't worship him denies God his onipotence.
Remember, before John the Baptist met Jesus, many thought him to be the messiah. He obviously had a close relationship with God that was then increased by the knowledge he learned from Jesus. I think one needs to interpret what John says. It like a fan of Bob Dylan's who finally hears Woodie Guthrie and says you can't know Bob Dylan until you know Woodie Guthrie. Woodie's music of course leading to a greater understanding of Bob's
Would god have not allowed John into heaven had he and Jesus never met?
Did all people burn in hell before Jesus birth?

^ I am a frequent person who goes to church and I believe in God very much, but I do not know a lot about the bible quite yet. I do beleive that everyoen went to heaven at the time until hell was formed. The devil was Gods most beautiful angels, but turned "bad" because he was jealous over jesus (I believe) and I hope some will correct me if I am totally wrong. This is what formed hell, and from this point I really have no idea honestly.
I also still say that God is not sending us to hell, we have a choice in the matter. If we follow his commandments and love him and worship him and give our life to him then we shall forever live in the land of milk and honey and solution 5

I say this with all due respect man (100% serious I am not trying to be insulting here) but your posts are incredibly over the top. Literally oozing religious zealotry.
I'm completely with lth on this one, at some point you just need to keep your religious views to yourself.

Too much religion debate hurts my head. I honestly believe that it leads to nowhere due to people's fundamental insights that don't change much.
Marc, thought you would like this, I was sitting studying for my physics exam and I was thinking about just giving up and going to bed. Then I asked myself what would marc lobliner do? So I drank a protein shake, repped out some huge weight on deadlifts while studying physics.
Ok so the part about lifting while studying wasn't true, but the protein shake and studying was haha
Keep up the hard work! Very inspiring.

Yeah I'm noticing more and more that taking things day by day with an eventual goal in mind is the way to go. Otherwise it gets overwhelming.

And be realistic. This is why I won't compete until 2011.

The question is not whether or not the smith machine is effective, the real question is are you eating enough for it to be effective? -me

I am reminded of the awesomeness of God when I look at nature. I think about how I struggle day in and day out to build my physique. I think of all the engineering that goes into the projects at work. I think about how relationships don't become better on their own. When I think of what it takes to make some of these things in life happen, I am reminded that logically there is no way the world, which is of infinite magnitude compared to these things, was created by chance.

True, I think your last statement there is what makes me consider myself "Agnostic" and not "Atheist." I have no idea if there is a God, I have no idea if I am right or if you are right. I don't know if Jesus actually broke small amount of fish and bread and was able to feed thousands; or if he used bread to go fishing and gave food to everyone. Then someone who saw the good person he was made the story glorious (I've always wondered that! I'm always one to try and make sense of the Biblical stories, something that a "normal" person could have done, but the story could seem bigger when put in fancy words.) But, I do know the Earth is amazing! And we, along with everything else, seem to be HUGE organic machines. We built machines... so maybe someone built us.
I think everyone wonders what comes next, I guess I phrased what I said wrong. I was meaning that if an idea of Hell makes you more comfortable, like that you are headed on the right path, then Cheers! I don't think most religious people want others to go to Hell, they usually want to talk them into coming to church so they don't!!
I think the biggest mistake people who follow a God make is not following their own Commandment #1 - Not using God's name in vein. In the religion I grew up in.... they told me that meant not to say something like "God! That's annoying." or use God in any kind of sentence or cussing situation. The older I get the more I think that means don't use God's name to do horrible things or control other people. Like people who bomb or rape in the name of God, I think that's where they've really ruined a good thing. It starts wars, and hurts a lot of people. I think if everyone can get over one person having to be so right and another having to be so wrong, and just let people live as they please (as long as they aren't hurting others), life would be almost perfect!

No offense, I agree with everything you said, but maybe we should conclude this spiritual war before CHRIS the douche comes back with a dildo of a comment up his butt.
