Q's about my new CETME

So I recently bought a CETME Sporter, and I've been hearing different arguments about what ammunition to use. I understand that there's a difference between the civilian .308 and the NATO 7.62x51. What I'm wondering is if anybody on here owns a CETME and has any personal experience with it and ammo? I've heard there are problems with the brass being demolished using .308, and that sometimes it fails to cycle unless you use the higher-pressure, higher-quality NATO stuff.


I didn't realize, however, that finding cheap 7.62x51 NATO is a lot harder than it used to be, what with a lot of the military surplus stockpiles worldwide drying up. I'm wondering if my CETME will function properly using .308...I'm not worried about damaged brass, as I don't know how to reload (yet ).

So....comments? And thanks for any input.

(And yes, I've read the horror stories about Century Arms, but apparently those are a thing of the past)

you will have more problems with the action closing than you will with ammo.

All I know about it its that 308 (civilian) is a higher pressure round than 7.62x51 nato. Using higher pressure ammo than what your rifle is designed for can be very bad.

As far as what your CETME can shoot, I don't know, but I would make sure it can take civilian 308 before you use it.

I have never had any issues with 7.62 nato or 0.308 ammo. It all shoots exactly the same from mine.

Have owned and shot for 15 years.
