Weapons are stored in the Armory and issued only for training operations. Other than Military Police no one walks around base armed, or even has easy access to weapons and ammunition.

The shooter was not only shooting at soldiers preparing to deploy but he was also shooting at women, soldiers in wheelchairs, soldiers with canes...my husband was at the hospital and ran into a few people who were actually shot at, one of them being his speech pathologist who must be 55 years old...she had a panic attack so she had to go to the hospital. The other guys he knows that were shot at are injured combat vets. My husband said they described counting 8 shots, hearing the magazine hit the ground and then taking off for their life. I am actually glad the shooter is alive so he can pay for what he did.

Don't you think the military should change their policy then seeing as:

1. They are trained soldiers knowing when to use a gun

2. IT would be safer for them to walk around armed 24/7

3. And they would be more likely to prevent freak scenarios like this.

My GF was talking with me yesterday, and said, "If this was actually planned to stir up hatred against Muslims, it's even more idiotic. Are these people trying to get us to kill all of them? I bet the guy as a psychiatrist at the base saw enough of the crazies confessing what they were doign abroad to innocent muslims and he himself went crazy hearing these things. Not to mention his family said he has been refusing deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan for a long time now, not wanting to fight Muslims abroad... and that he was constantly racially and religiously harassed by all his military comrades.

i'm a pilot. i was flying in the area at the time the shootings were going on. i over heard a lot of radio talk between military and law enforcement. one remember one guy saying "7 are dead and it is still under attack"
