Gotcha...you definetly need to get back to work then.
As far as the new guy......I think his beard is rockin. If I didn't have a fiance that pesters me about my facial hair....I would grow a long one too.

i could, my wife may pester me when it gets to my chest, but she likes my beard. that's the only reason i trimmed it a little last night instead of cutting it all off.

Congrats C5VetteLS1 on joining the crew!! You always contribute in a positive way to this forum. Welcome aboard!!
Animal, time to go to work...
I may have to skip my 1st workout since starting back up. Today is legs and my left knee is out of control with arthritis. Not sure what is going on there. We'll see if it improves during the day but squatting right now is out of the question.

LOL. I can physically grow a beard, but I'm not allowed to because of my job. However, when I take my yearly month long vacation I usually get a goatee going on.....because I shave my head and that's what cool middle age guys with shaved heads do.....and toward the end of my vacation I just let the whole thing grow. I've learned that the itching is just shy of turning me into a mass murderer......everybody says that goes away or you get used to it, but I'm not sure I could ever get to that point.
I like yours though and I really like the disdain for the beaten path!!!

OK dude, there is this old racquet ball club back in my hometown......about 20 minutes west of my house. It opened about 25 years ago and they closed after about 5 years, reopened a few years later, close...reopened.......yada yada. I'm pretty sure its been vacant/dormant for at least 10-12 years.
Anyway, you move down here, we open a hardcore place (not that I know anything about being hardcore.....but that's irrelevent), and go into business in that joint. We get some sweet ass powerlifting strength building ****, get Tate and company at Elite to outfit us/sponser us/ and maybe do some teaching......and we get rich and go national. We'll bump out Westside as the ones to be in the central Ohio area......
Ok, there's some flaws in my plan........we're not really Hardcore, neither of us have a business or marketing background, Westside is well.......Westside, and nobody has been able to make a business work in that building.
A guy can dream can't he?

the itch is terrible when it starts growing- mine usually stops being terrible about 3 weeks in. my neck always itches, though, so i have to shave that part- but it would probably quit if i left it alone long enough.
the bold is probably the reason i like his beard so much- most people couldn't do it, and that's the cool part.

i'm in. seriously, though, if i could do anything i would open a gym. i'd sponsor a pl/strongman team, just cause it would be awesome. the whole knocking westside off- can't see that going on!
if you didn't live in the middle of elite/westside territory we could try to market it as the best powerlifting gym in the area. that could be done up here, except the unemployment rate is huge, local economy sucks (even more than the michigan economy in general), and almost everyone is happy being fat and out of shape. out of the 5000 different people i've worked with in the last 2 years, i'd say 50% couldn't make it on a mile walk. 30% of the rest look like they sit on the couch as soon as they get home and don't move except to eat, go to the bathroom, and go to bed.
i've actually been told that if i had any real responsibilities, i wouldn't be able to devote the time to lift weights. wtf? full time job, 3 kids, wife, 10 hours commuting- i can find time. single people with no kids and a 10 minute drive have honestly told me that. they are just lazy and don't wanna admit it.
off topic- i'm ordering a plaque from my federation that has my state record on it- it will look alot better that way than some printed out paper in a department store frame

LOL at the real responsibilities thing........I mean really....LOFL!!!!!!!!!!
People are so stupid........On further review.....I'm actually stupid ok, I get it. But there are so many more people out there that are walking around not fully understanding that they are almost completely retarded.
I spend about an hour and a half in the gym every 3 days right now (total time for the three days). I'd like to add another hour to that time........I really don't think 2.5-3 hours in a three day span is inconceivable for anybody but maybe the President or a high level CEO or a surgeon!!!! Honestly, if you're any of those people......can't you just pay somebody enough money to make the world leave you alone for 3 hours?????
Oh, and I'm having results too, it not like its not working with that commitment!!!! My problem is an atrocious diet and not enough cardio conditioning.....but I can change that with more dedication and that extra hour I was talking about.
Again, people are stupid and lazy. Yes, I can get lazy too, but I will admit it to you if I realize it or you call me on it.......

yea, i'm not saying i never get a bit lazy. it's just sad that they can say that and honestly believe it.
during the week, my lifting takes me about an hour (only lift one day from mon-thurs) the other workouts are cardio/conditioning, and that's usually only 15-20 minutes of rowing or kettlebell stuff. i lift 2 days on the weekend (i have friday-sunday off), and sometimes get another conditioning session in. my lifting on the weekends is usually an hour or an hour and 15 minutes. if i'm pressed for time, like if my son has a hockey game, i cut a little assistance out and usually get done in 45 minutes. honestly, sometimes i stay closer to 45 minutes anyway.
that's not really a huge time commitment, it just makes me laugh when people say that they don't have time. even the bowflex people are right when they say 30 minutes 3 times a week can make a big difference.

Keetman and Animal..first of all, I was thinking about moving to Ohio when I saw the conversation about the gym.
And as to the parts that I quoted...see my sig brothers (the S Dolley quote).

NOR WILL I CONVERT.
Hey, even if we dont "do ok" we will have a hella nice place to get our workout on.
By the way, we were told today that if the legislature asks us to cut our budget further, there will be layoffs. I never thought any person would sacrifice law enforcement as a result of a few dollars. Unreal.
In other words, I may need a job at that gym we are talking about. LOL!

i'm sure we have room, but we'll have to make it a bell to ring when someone doesn't grunt. they must not be trying hard enough!

they've done that in flint. budget cuts= layoffs for police and fire. that is mind blowing to me- lay off public safety and keep the 'tards at city hall working? i'd rather have an extra officer or fireman than 2 office workers to keep the lines moving. luckily, i don't live in the city of flint, but damn.
*this was a couple years ago, i'm not really sure if they recalled or rehired any since.

This isn't anything territorial fellas and it might get worse.
We just passed a 1/2% tax increase here and they used the threat of laying off 300 officers and 240 ff's as the leverage to get it passed. Another local community just failed an income tax increase and were specifically informed police/fire would be reduced if not passed.....that one surprised me a bit because their tax rate is only 1% while most in central Ohio are around 2-3% and have been for decades.
Also, I live in a school district that just passed a levy this week by 400 votes (less than 1%) and it has failed 3 other times in the last year. This has torn the community up and the school board took ALL fall sports away from the kids when it failed in August....ALL....no football, nothing!!
Across the board people are tired of paying the taxes. Police, Fire, and schools are all important functions of the Government.....but the Government is trying to do to much. Taxes are going to keep going up if this desire to be all to everyone isn't stopped. You just can't have financial freedom if you have to pony up to the bar everytime somebody wants a new government function. Because we don't get a chance to "vote" on whether or not we get a tax increase too often......when the voter does I'm guessing they will continue and increase their no votes.
This is exactly why I'm always railing about the taxes and socialism!! We can't have what we have and be what the left wants us to be.....something just has to give.

I think we see eye-to-eye on about 95% of political stuff, so I am curious...are you for the Fairtax?
I can't believe that we have tax funded programs here like "Take a child fishing" (yes, serious). Why cant we do away with crap like that and use those funds for education and law enforcement? Crazy.

Look Buff, I'm for anything "fair", and I can't stand truly progressive taxes. By progressive, I mean as you make more.....you pay a higher PERCENTAGE. See, even a flat tax is going to be a progressive tax because one man will be paying more just because he makes more. Don't get me wrong, I believe that's doable.......but it really ought to be one % of income regardless of income. If you want to know the truth.....I think people on welfare ought to be taxed too. Not because it'll make much difference in the coffers.....but so they'll know that **** didn't come out of Mr Politician's special "I really care about my constituents" fund that the other guy wouldn't tap into. Comes out of my pocket and I ain't getting no reach around so I prefer for the politicians to get out of there.
The problem is we start talking about "flat" taxes and what not and people start to forget all the other ways they're paying. We got federal taxes, state taxes, local taxes, local fees, property taxes, capital gains taxes, and (I really love this one).....inheritance taxes.
They all ought to get one percentage of what I make and they can all fight it out on how it gets spent. That number should never change and if we don't like the way they're spending it......we fire them the next election cycle. When times are good......don't you dare go spending that pile of money on new entitlements and don't bother giving it back either. Save it for times like right now......I don't care how big that pile gets.......you leave your damn hands off it. I got an emergency fund in the bank and I don't go touching it just cause I want a motorcycle and the money's sitting there.......its there for when my furnace breaks down, or my kid needs braces, or when a calibrated set of ivankos pops up on.......no, no, no.............see what I'm talking about?
I just think as soon as the greedy ass politicians start trying to find a way to make a "fair tax"......they'll trick us into believing it'll be a fair tax while they're really trying to find some way to just widen up my butt to get their entire elbow up in there.
Was that too graphic?
Look man, I don't want homeless people, I don't want hungry people, I don't want people eating dog food because they can't afford their bp meds, and I want everybody to get a good education and have good safety services. But you know what........I want to have some hope that if I work hard enough I can have a better life. If the gov's going to just keep taking it in order to make everything perfect for everybody........where's the hope for the guy that's breaking his damn back trying to make this country work?
So yea, I have confidence a fair tax would be a start in the right direction. I have absolutely no confidence the people we've hired and continue to hire to properly run this country have a snowball's chance in hell of doing it without finding yet a new and creative way to punk out the people that run, build, and maintain this once proud and free nation.

deadlift: 335x3, 345x3, 365x4, 405x2, 455x0
rack pulls: 455x2x2, 405x5x5x3
barbell holds (at lockout): 405x10 seconds, 315x15 seconds, 225x15 seconds
stopped at 4 with 365 instead of repping out, it felt easy and i wanted to go a little higher. 405 felt good (camera died when i was setting up, so no video of it). 455 felt like sht. guess i need to build a small platform to lift from- though i could just use plates. i've already got the top for another box cut, so i can just use that for the platform top, should be quick to put together. just gotta make myself do it.
rack pulls felt pretty good, the bar was at the top of my kneecap. the platform will help me on these, too, since i was using the last hole in my rack. there is a support i could set the bar on, but it will be starting from mid-shin on that.
