Best defense of all time
vote for one of the following team defenses. I got rid of absolute stats and normalized everything across 15-game schedules to protect the innocent.
also removed absolute passing and rushing yardage stats since they are EXTREMELY skewed (i.e. rushing yards in the 60s and 70s >>> 2000's, vice versa for passing)
PM me the identities of teams A, B and C. I'll rep those who are correct. Do NOT post guesses in the thread please.
Team A
passing defense
first downs by passing allowed - 132
opponent completion % - 47.7%
opponent passer rating - 51.2
opponent passing TD/pick - 15/32
sacks - 60
rushing defense
opponent's rushing YPC - 3.7
opponent rushing TDs - 6
opponent first downs by rushing - 69
fumbles recovered - 19
scoring defense
total offensive TDs allowed - 22
total points allowed - 185
************
Team B
passing defense
first downs by passing allowed - 103
opponent completion % - 42.4
opponent passer rating - 45.2
opponent passing TD/pick - 9/25
sacks - 44
rushing defense
opponent's rushing YPC - 3.2
opponent rushing TDs - 5
opponent first downs by rushing - 74
fumbles recovered - 26
scoring defense
total offensive TDs allowed - 15
total points allowed - 147
************
Team C
passing defense
first downs by passing allowed - 127
opponent completion % - 55.9%
opponent passer rating - 62.5
opponent passing TD/pick - 10/22
sacks - 33
rushing defense
opponent's rushing YPC - 2.7
opponent rushing TDs - 5
opponent first downs by rushing - 55
fumbles recovered - 24
scoring defense
total offensive TDs allowed - 15
total points allowed - 155

I've gotten several responses so far. Some are correct, some are incorrect but close, some are just....well...WTF?

gonna bump this one more time. C'mon peeps, vote and guess which the 3 teams are. Easy money here, guess correctly and get 30k green sent your way! For those of you who are right (or think you are right) I will start paying reps out tomorrow.

Team A / Team B / Team C
passing defense
first downs by passing allowed - 132 / 103 / 127
opponent completion % - 47.7% / 42.4 / 55.9%
opponent passer rating - 51.2 / 45.2 / 62.5
opponent passing TD/pick - 15 TD, 32 picks / 9 TDs, 25 picks / 10 TDs, 22 picks
sacks - 60 / 44 / 33
rushing defense
opponent's rushing YPC - 3.7 / 3.2 / 2.7
opponent rushing TDs - 6 / 5 / 5
opponent first downs by rushing - 69 / 74 / 55
fumbles recovered - 19 / 26 / 24
scoring defense
total offensive TDs allowed - 22 / 15 / 15
total points allowed - 185 / 147 / 155
so there we go. Should be a little easier to make comparisons.
and don't PM me stating "it's the steelers, bears, and ravens!"
duh
which is which? If you want the greenies, you gotta get the "which is which".
To make it easy, I won't force you to guess the EXACT year of the Steelers defense, since they have, literally, 5 different seasons which they produced stats very similar to these ones (and interestingly enough, those 5 different seasons span 3 different decades...neat!)
So guess for green! PM me for the reps!

3) all 3 of the defenses got lit up once during the regular season and yielded 30 (or more) points and 400+ yards of offense. One of the teams got lit up for over 500 yards of total offense in a single game
4) one of the defenses produced turnovers in every game during the regular season. The other 2 defenses produced turnovers in all but 1 game during the regular season

6) one of the defenses was gouged for a 110-yard rushing game by an opposing RB, but only gave up 16 yards passing

8) one of the defenses gave up 105 yards passing on the day, and a net total of 4 yards rushing
9) each team posted consecutive shutouts during the season. one of the teams had multiple streaks with consecutive shutouts

Team B
Points allowed is the most significant statistic.
The less points scored on you the less your offense needs to win the game.
EDIT: I selected Team C and my intention was to select Team B...

pretty much everyone has figured out the teams, but it seems that several of you have them mixed up.
Team A = Bears (3 votes)
Team B = Steelers (21 votes)
Team C = Ravens (7 votes)
unfortunately, a few things gave the Bears away, namely the high # of sacks and the high # of points allowed.
