Hold it together, bro...at least long enough to strangle that dog. It's the dog. It's all the dog's fault and he/she is doing it on PURPOSE! That animal is out to get you. You must strike first and so on...
I wonder if potassium would be at all useful here...
If it were me, I can tell you what I'd be doing, which would be chasing the Vicodin with most likely sake...

Well, if I was going to get good and ripped, I would do it and totally get it on...a number of years ago when I had a bad abscess and had a ****load of painkillers for it, I wound up taking an unholy combination of a handful of pills that included stims, Lortab, I think, some cold medication, some pills that I can no longer recall and quite a lot of booze to soak it all down and then drove downtown to go play a show completely blitzed out of my mind. My abscess definitely did not hurt then...

just an fyi, i assumed all hernias went into the ball sac, because mine went deep into it. Apparently, as I learned today, that is not the case. It is for this reason I have had so many complications. as my hernia went deep down in the sac.

yea my hernia likes to hang out with my nuts to? I have to seperate them when it overcrowds them. and b4 sex
I hope things get better for you soon!!!!

As SwolenONE is returning to elements of his previous adventures, it appears I will be going on the shelf in the very near future for the same injury, albeit mine is not as severe as his, being restricted mostly to the upper right (from my viewpoint) quadrant above the pubic region. I am hoping this lack of intersection with my balls keeps them from inflating like those gigantic balloons they toss around the crowd at concerts. SwolenONE was also generous enough to consent to me posting here about another version of his own agony.
My own surgery will be on Nov. 5, which leaves me a week and a half, give or take, to redecorate my living room into a bedroom, since going up and down stairs seems unlikely at best, for at least a couple of days.
Mine occurred as the result of a coughing fit and was either in late 2007 or early 2008, still not exactly sure which. It hardly matters now, but does answer a lot of questions about why performing in front of a rock band hurt so goddamn much when I was done. I struggled with that sh!t for almost 2 full years, mostly because I didn't realize what it was (I thought it was either a strain or pulled muscle), but it didn't negatively affect anything else, until I blew it out more finally in late September with a nice ab workout. That sort of brought the matter rather dramatically home.
One of the worst things about it is how very steadily it starts taking things away, such as the ability to do "normal" things normally, things such as walking upright or screwing for hours without massive amounts of agony (the unintentional kind, of course) or intense cardio or anything involving being vertical or being able to piss without holding your guts in or sleeping normally or doing the workout you want to do or doing vocals for more than an hour and change and then getting to not being able to do any for any appreciable amount of time or any of a hundred other things people take for granted. It plays with your mind when your body betrays you...
On the other hand, you also find out just how very common this thing is, which is more helpful than it seems...

yes, VERY common, which also helped me accept that I needed the surgery as many people have had to do the same.
anyway, I wish you the best of luck, and Im sure you will not have the complications. Glad to see your getting it taken care of, and please, keep this thread going with your experiences throughout your recovery.

yea, Im back on track. Ive made up all the tests I needed to, and am now just slightly behind in some work. After tomorrow night I will be completely caught up as well as feeling good enough to start visiting friends and spending time outside of the house.
It was nice being at class and believe it or not, was nice being in the testing center all day. Feels good to be back to my normal routine. I will probably start up with cardio once the swelling goes down, which hasnt happened yet. Hopefully in a weeks time I'll be going on some nice, long walks.

I think there is a stigma attached certainly. The last thing I need to hear is the ignorance of people further attempting to belittle what they don't understand in terms of training and moving weights and so on. I hope I don't have the complications, but nothing is guaranteed, of course. I keep doing stuff I probably shouldn't be and the last weekend, because I didn't say no to essentially marathon sex, I've gotten to pay somewhat dearly for the last 2 days and running...I will definitely put my commentary here...

Walking without feeling like your entire crotch is being pulled apart should be pretty nice.

This is just a bump in the road, buddy, and it'll be in your rear-view mirror in no time. Till then, I'll hang out here and cheer you on.

This has been postponed until Nov. 19th as I have been visited by what appears to be shingles for the past week and change. Let me give you a quick bit of advice on shingles: don't.

Crap! When it rains, it pours, eh? You have my sincerest condolences and my hope for a speedy recovery so that you can get back to addressing that other little problem.

Yes, those two are competing for worst pain trigger at the moment, though the shingles is winning that battle handily. Also had back spasms/cramps for most of the day, all of which was doing a remarkable job of pushing the upper limits of my considerable, but far from infinite, pain threshold...

True. My bad. Not the first time I've typed what was meant to be a funny, and came across a little dick-ish. I need to practice more with the smileys, I think.
BTW- it sounds like you hernia is similar- same place as well- to mine. I'm 7 months post OP. I feel a little pull now and then, usually after leg day or nookie. Bad news: cycling was the last activity I could add. Meaning- cycling hurt more than anything else.

I can do the AirDyne at fairly low intensity now without it bothering anything as well as the other activity, though with the second, between the hernia and shingles, sex is more of an exercise in agony than anything else. It seems to be proceeding normally through the eruptive stage and I'm hoping that will be entirely concluded by next weekend. As long as further complications do not arise, we can finally get to the getting...needless to say, this is severely throwing my novel-writing schedule completely off...

Cardio is back
I did 45 min low intensity cardio with no pain whatsoever, and no discomfort in the least
My legs felt fried from just walking for 45 min and had a pump going, lulz.
2 more weeks and Im going to start doing really light weights. Progression is going to go: jumpstretch flex band movements, light weights, light weights with flexband, then we'll see how Im progressing.

i hear ya
i actually did some bench, close grip and shoulder press with just the 45lb bar today just to keep from losing my mind.
that light of weight on such supported movements brought me no discomfort.

For those of you keeping score, surgery was completed today after a lengthy delay. I got there early on top of it, so I was in the hospital easily 7 hours and change today. I felt kind of bad for my companion, who also slept poorly the night before as well. I further had a burning headache, which, combined with my dread of needles and some insane cold temperatures in the building, due to construction, made the experience fairly miserable, but at least I also got to throw $1K at the procedure...
I have a rather prominent scar, since the hernia was far more massive than the doctor had anticipated. This is largely due to him not taking the MRI I felt he should have. The surgery site itself was shot full of lots of local anes, which made my dick numb, a factor I did not enjoy much. Also, their barbering skills are rather poor, since the trim they did was quite uneven...
The procedure itself went off without a hitch and the general anes wore off very quickly. Walking presented no trouble for the first few hours, but I notice that it is starting to stiffen quite a lot after periods of inactivity. I'm pretty sure it will suck ass tomorrow and the couch I'm sleeping on, since I can't navigate the stairs to my bedroom, is very low, which requires me to use my baseball bat to get in and out of it...the wound itself is also still bleeding a bit, but all of that is fairly normal. There is little to no pain as long as I don't stretch things too much, but that may change tomorrow also...
Not eating for about 19 hours was very unenjoyable as well and not having water started to make me cranky, when combined with all of the other stuff...anyway, it's all over now and life is skittles and beer for the next little bit, I suppose...being unused to typing on my laptop keyboard, I'm going to cut out now, but as I can, I will post more later.

That's odd that they barbered you before surgery... if they had cut you during the shave, they would have had to postpone it. My doctor made me nair the site and wash in this special liquid soap the night before and the morning of to kill all bacteria.

LOL So I guess the line, "Hey babe, wanna check out my hematoma?" doesn't work so well with the ladies?
