There is no such thing as an LED T.V.
Brand names call some Televisions LED TVs simply as some marketing ploy.
LED TVs are Purely LCD tvs that use simple LEDs to light up the background behind the TV.

Just get LCD and keep it simple. The difference in price is not worth it unless your living room has A) no blinds B) The sun faces your TV at all times.

The so called 'LED' Tv's currently on the market are just LCD Tv's with LED backlights. You will have to wait a few years and pay ALOT of money if you want an OLED TV, which is the real thing.

If you have more money than brains, get an LED TV to save an inch of space and some energy.
If you're not an idiot, go with a 120Hz LCD from Samsung or Sony

This. It's all a bunch of marketting crap to make you think you're not buying an LCD but some fancy new technology. It's the same panel with a more uniform backlight. If OLED ever friggin' comes out, then that'll be a completely different story.

Wrong! In fact, there are significant differences between LED backlit and traditional LCD (phosphorus lamp) TVs:
1) LEDs have a much higher color gamut
2) LEDs have a higher black level
3) LEDs are brighter and offer significantly longer operation
And finally, LEDs operate with a significant energy use advantage.
Still, I wouldn't buy a TV solely for gaming (unless I was a fanatic?) but if it's good for other HD viewing, it will be good for gaming as well--if only your computer/device could keep up.

Soooo, while we're talking about tv's in this piece, can someone school me on the 60, 120 & 240HZ differences?
Let's say I cop a 60, how much of a difference will it make versus not getting that 120 or 240?

You probably will not be able to tell much of a difference between them at all, especially 120-240.. (in b4 people who bought 240 say otherwise)
But get 120 just to future proof. No point getting 4 year old tech, you never know what could require 120+ in the near future.

None, unless your watching a fast action flick. It's used to minimize one of the inherent flaws to the LCD--the ability to keep with fast motion.
The 120 hz and 240 Hz use the technology of interpolation to minimize this flaw. Still, if action movies and fast sports is most important to you, then you have one good reason to choose a plasma over an LCD.

100% agree. 3 weeks ago i bought the Samsung8500 55" LED LCD to replace a 5yr old Toshiba DLP.... this guy.. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-UN55B8.../dp/B002HDZNSC
This TV looked far and away the best in person than any TV i've seen to date.... so i bought it.

the only time you MAY see a difference between a 120 and 240 is during a Blu Ray movie.

well, i had just gotten my Q3 bonus, and wanted to replace my old crappy DLP with something at the top of the spectrum. because we all know it will be outdated the day after you bring it home, right?
all i can say is my PS3 and movies look amazing. it was quite an upgrade.
I did a lot of research prior and this was the TV i wanted.

I would just prefer to go the middle of the road route, get a 55" 120Hz LCD for half the price.. Sell it for 1500.00 in 2 years, and upgrade middle of the road again.
Rather than getting the BEST thing on the market, paying a ridiculous price for it, and have something far better on the market 2 years later for half the price.
But like I said, if you have the money do what makes you happy, who am I to judge. Just not my style as all. Enjoy your TV, I'm sure it's mint.

I bought this one and love it. No complaints. Good deal now too.

I'd recommend a 120mhz refresh but 240 is not necessary.

Unlikely you'd get that much, but there no harm in hoping for the best.

Actually the useful like of a TV is more like 8 years.

Well we all have vices somewhere. If you're is not TVs then something else--i.e. golf, models, fishing, sports, cars etc. Besides you don't have to get everything all at once. When I'm building a A/V system, I typically purchase it piecemeal
As for me, one of the main reasons I've been avoiding getting into gaming all these years have been my inability to avoid getting carried away. I got into A/V many years ago and have been stricken ever since. Now that I know how to recognize quality, I could never be completely satisfied with mediocre.
One last thing, when making a large purchase ($500+) I always do research first. I you don't mind waiting a bit (say, four to six month) after the product comes on the market, the price will drop substantially. In addition, the seller will also be more likely to make a deal if inventory is high and the next update is about to debut. I also always check for coupons and discount codes which also help reduce the price.

That's exactly how I bough my video camera and my laptop. Although my meager bonus only come once a year.
