Which field do lawyers make the most money? *Serious*
Anyone know which field they make the most money?
I'm guessing Corporate law? How long would it take to get into that field after getting the degree?
Thanks

I would assume Corporate lawyers, but criminal lawyers could make some big bucks too. People will pay to stay out of jail... My lawyer is about to make 10k off of me... feels bad man.

better question is who has the best $$/stress ratio. Yea defense and corp lawyers make great money but i've heard it's the most stressful. My mom was a defense lawyer for 10 years and I basically never saw her when i was little. She went to work for the state after my little brother was born, took a big pay cut but hasn't regretted it at all. My dad is in real estate law, wears jeans and a button up to work, makes great money and I can't remember the last time he stepped in a court room.

plaintiff lawyers by far, think about suing some company for a few million for a bunch of custom, in 2007 there were $247 billion dollars of civial cases or the "tort" system. and pls received 33% of that so yeah go that way. i just quoted that from a book also so the info is accurate the book is ten roads to riches by ken fisher.
edit: it also said most plaintiff lawyers don't even go to great schools, usually mediocre ones you just gotta fight for the "little guy" so you can get a cut from the pie when they sue a corporation for millions of $$

IP law is booming right now. If you have the capital and can afford to take a loss for a few years, then PI makes good money too, but reputation is very poor.
Most fun is most likely criminal. Most stressful is probably family law.
The long-term benefits are very good when working public even though the salary is lower (i think 20%/year of call lower than private).

He asked for averages, and not to mention there where multiple lawyers on these joints, and you had to have connections to the group suing. So when you take out the top tear, and bottom tear, they are not that much on average.

http://www.cjac.org/blog/2009/07/pla...s-rake-in-mor/
snippet from it "Plaintiffs' lawyers from 13 firms have received more than $25 million in attorney's fees and expenses in a class action lawsuit against Ford Motor Company."
You were saying?

lol dude class action lawsuits take years to do, years you may not be getting paid for as long as you're working on the case (unless you work for a firm, which then means you'll only be getting a bonus and the firm will pocket the cut)
very few lawyers have the patients to go into that kind of law
EDIT: not talking to sandaltan

This.
Also, when people say corporate law, that's a very big field, there's all sorts of stuff in that. Basically get top marks, get into a top tier firm and soldier your way up the food chain. Talked to this woman who was working on a pharmaseuticals case that's been going on for 5 years and counting. That's when you're making the big bucks.

She represented rail road companies in workers comp suits i beleive (i was little). She was in court at least once a week. Her biggest stress was traveling since most of her cases were in federal court. It seemed like she was always in St. Louis, D.C., San Fransisco, etc.

IP if you're talking starting money.
Probably corporate/defense if you're talking average money.
Personal injury if you're talking potential contingency money.
