DHA and alopecia?
Has anyone heard of a connection between DHA and alopecia? I started taking DHA in July and also lost a patch of hair in July. My doctor diagnosed me with alopecia areata (sp?). I haven't asket my doctor (yet) about the DHA, and likely there is no connection (it's probably cause by stress) but I thought I would ask if anyone has heard anything. I'm taking the suggested dose a couple times a week, there are always days that I forget or get too busy to take it.

I just did some research of the side effects of DHA, and there were a few side effects but nothing related to alopecia areata. Most of the time, like you said, the loss of hair in patches is due to stress, or hormones. Are you getting all the nutrients your body requires? What type of shampoo and conditioner are you using? Are you using any other hair products on your scalp, if so what are you using? (waxes,oils,creams,ect...) How much stress are you under right now?

thanks for the information. I'm definetly under a lot of stress right now, so I'm sure that is the major cause. I'm taking a multi-vitamin, wash my hair a couple times a week with a dandruff-fighting shampoo. Other hair products - yes! probably too many, I use gels and sprays to keep it curly. I'm just hoping it'll grow back... : )

Im sure it will grow back, no worries. Try to shampoo your hair with a product that has tea tree oil in it. The oil will stimulate the hair follicle to possibly regrow hair. Don't go more than two w/o washing it also. What could happen then is a build up of sebum and product that you put in and it could be cutting off the follicle from oxygen and it will "die" and fall out. Try to keep your product off your scalp as well. Good luck! :-)
