How does ricotta cheese stack against cc? Is it lower sodium? Higher? Could I replace cc with some ricotta on toast(fcukin' NUMMY with some cinamin-sugar thrown on top)?

I have used both and both are great. This is how I usually make the decesion.
A little hungrier than usual: Cottage Cheese (solid food source).
Not as hungry: Caesin Shake.

Depends. Regular Ricotta has a very large amount of fat. Much more than full fat cottage cheese if you were to compare both on that standard.
I personally hate the taste of Ricotta by itself or with anything else.
If you like provolone cheese, imagine that but creamy/a little more bitter. If thats for you...go for it.

Why do people care about sodium so much? With all the water we are drinking we need sodium. In fact i add salt to almost all my meals. Unless you are 1 week out from a competition or have some type of sodium-related health problem stop worrying sodium.

please tell us why you want to eat something pre bed if
a) you're not hungry
b) you already met your macro's for the day.

one problem is the sodium in CC makes me have to get up and take a leak in the middle of the night, even eating it an hour before bed. i pee right before i hit the sheets and bam, still have to pee in the middle of the night. no CC means no waking up and peeing. i'm actually grasping for alternates, and casein is expensive. i've heard a few say milk, or whey + PB or all three. is this gonna do me wrong? maybe drinking some milk will be less bad than eating sodium...

Personally I have always read about cottage cheese being amazing for you but could never find myself to eat it. In the last few months i have eaten it througout the day and before bed and find it help with my gains in bodybuilding and its ALOT cheaper than buying Casein proteing blends like Syntha-6. As for the sodium issue, if you get 1% or 0% milkfat CC its not that bad a level and in bodybuilding, i drink more water than a dehydrated camel walking on the sun anyway so the sodium really doesnt affect me.

For a while now, I've been eating about half a tub (12oz of a 24oz tub) of CC before bed everynight. That's about 38g of protein.
However, I'm considering switching to a casein powder shake instead of CC before bed. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
It seems they both cost about the same for about the same quantity of protein... but the casein powder is MUCH MORE convenient because you simply mix it, drink, and your done in less than a minute. 12oz of CC takes much longer for me to down than that. A casein shake also has much less salt than CC. (I'm already in the habit of drinking a whey shake in the morning)
What should it be... casein shake of CC pre bed?
(Any recommendations for which brand of powder? As usual, Optimum seems to get high marks)

They are comparable. Try both. See what works for you. Use that.

Anymore input? Thinking about switching up to Casein before bed instead of cottage cheese. I can't stand the taste and texture of cottage cheese.

I will go with cottage cheese. Whole food is usually your best bet, besides upon waking in the morning, and post workout. I also don't like the consistency of casein. It isn't going to make a huge difference either way, but I enjoy eating rather than chugging shakes. It's really just a matter of preference.

Food is better than any supplement. If you can eat, then eat. Don't rely on powders unless you absolutely have to. CC wins over Casein shakes before bed ANYDAY imo.

the problem with mixing milk with whey is that milk has carbs and you dont want carbs before bed...... it will raise your insulin and lower growth hormone secretion.

Good to know. Thanks. I just can't stand the taste and texture of cottage cheese, a meal that would normally take 5 mins to eat, takes me 30 mins from having to fight from gagging.
