Not sure I'd say I have a favorite because I don't enjoy cardio but I do sprints for HIIT or use the step machine and go as fast as I can for a minute then slow for two minutes. Same with sprinting on the treadmill; sprint as fast as I can for a minute (right now the fastest I can go w/o hurting myself is setting it to 9/9.5) then walk real slow for two minutes (I put the speed down to 2). I'll do that five or six times then cool down for five minutes.

I'm curious to know as well. I have googled "HIIT" and I get the general idea of it, but some people are doing sprints for 30 seconds and then walking for 90 seconds...
Other sites say to sprint for 1 min, walk for 3...
Not sure if it matters how you break down the bursts? Also, instead of sprints, can you substitute other types of things like jumping jacks/burpees/etc and then walk in place? I have a jump rope...could I jump for 30 seconds and then walk in place for 90? Is that even HIIT? lol.
I have been told by several sources to incorporate HIIT 2-3x/week to shed additional fat, but I feel so clueless about it. It's way too cold here to do anything outdoors, so I have to be able to do it at the gym or in my home.

For me, I have stopped doing more traditional HIIT and now much more enjoy doing metabolic drills/Tabata type drills. They suck, they hurt, they make you want to hurl, but that is why they only last about 10-12 min's!
I have really leaned out doing these only 2-3 times a week, with a solid lifting program. I don't think I will ever go back to SS again!

I do 1 minute as fast as I can on the elliptical and then 2 minutes at a slower pace, repeat 6 times. I'd prefer to run on the treadmill, but I had a spine fusion 6 months ago where they put in 2 rods and 6 screws, so I don't think running again will ever be an option for me. I only started working out again 4 weeks ago, so we'll see what happens.

I just started doing Tabata method workouts (front squats with the bar was tuesday's workout). I will probably never go back to sprinting again (okay i probably will because i enjoy running on occasion).
I basically did a 4 minute workout with front squats. I squated for 20 second, then rested for 10. Repeat for the next 4 minutes.
After the 4 minutes i went upstairs to fold some stuff. I managed to fold one item and then proceeded to collapse on the floor face down. My dog came into the room and decided to lay on top of me and i still couldn't move. it took me about a half an hour and then i was able to get up but my legs were shaking.
Best workout ever.
