Quick warning and a question or two
warning: i've had 3 of the wrist wraps that i got with orders from apt, and on 2 of them, the thumb loop has torn clean off, and one is close to coming off, they are great wraps, but i'd bring a spare with you if you were relying on them for a competition
questions: do squat shoes make that big of a difference? i've been squatting in wrestling shoes and was about to upgrade to chucks, but i figure with the holidays coming up....... i might throw in some extra cash and get a real pair of squatting shoes
also, for lever belts, are they all, more or less, the same?

Might just be me but I squat less in squat shoes and more in a normal pair of trainers I have. Btw do you find a belt helps you lift more in deadlift and squats? or is it just for protection? As I don't use a belt ever
P.S. When did you start lifting?! as you're only 15 now judging by what's written under your name and you're lifting a huge amount for that age

Squat shoes have two benefits: Stability due to the snug shoe fit, wooden sole and meta tarsal straps. The raised heel to put you in a better position to rack the bar during the clean.
In powerlifting, the raised heel may allow depth to be reached more easily, but extra stability is the major selling point. Be careful that you get either VS do-wins or Rogue do-wins as they have the lowest heel on the market. The old do-wins are not going to help add squat poundage. Idk about the heel on adidas shoes, but they have are designed for a narrow (asian) foot.
Chucks provide a flat sole and are cheap; in gear the lack of a heel allows you to sit back and load your suit, allowing bigger weights to be squatted.
Wrestling shoes are inferior to both.

I squat in wrestling shoes and it does just fine. I am contemplating buying a pair of weightlifting shoes to help add stability in overhead pressing.
Also - It has been hit or miss with APT stuff for me. I had the same issue with the thumb loop tearing off when I was wrapping my wrists. I just went back to Inzer for wraps and suits because I have never had a quality issue. I did order a pair of single ply Convict knee sleeves to use as elbow sleeves. They will be here tomorrow and I hear nothing but good things about the sleeves. I shall see in about 24 hours.

I use wrist wraps without the thumb loop. You can't compete with the thumb loop on anyway (ipf).
Also, i love my squat shoes!

I'll let you know what I think of the sleeves, but I can tell you right now that I don't like elbow wraps. They feel too restrictive and I personally don't feel comfortable with that on my elbows.

What's wrong with you elbows?
Right now, I use a pair of cheap Valeo neoprene elbow sleeves and they have helped my elbows tremendously as far as pain goes. My elbows began to get very achy and it felt like I had mild tendonitis. The sleeves really help in warming up the joint and I am pain free. They don't provide any noticeable gain in poundage used on the bar.
*Make sure you're not mixing up elbow SLEEVES with elbow WRAPS.

I don't understand why everybody thinks you have to squat narrow to compete IPF...it's completely possible to hit depth with a wide stance (and flat shoes).
And back to the first topic, APT has redesigned their thumb loop, so the breaking problem should be fixed.

I agree. I think everyone has their own squatting style. They should choose equipment that meets that. As long as the lift gets the whites.

I'm not saying you need it to hit depth, or even that you can't squat wide.
It's just that the top dogs in IPF don't squat in chucks. Or sit back.
I was actually saying that to make him buy chucks hahaha.

But they should!
I think they changed the stitching and material on the thumb loops...

Go with chucks/thread
BTW, I love my apt wraps, the american flag striped ones, the work great and the thunb loop is still in tact after almost a full year of heavy training. But it may have just been bad stitching in your case because apt is high quality equipment.

This Sam. However from what I remember you squat relatively wide, which may limit someof the benefits you can get from Oly shoes for some people.

I use the white VS Athletics shoes (higher heel than the Do-Wins) and I like them alot, allows hitting depth much easier and great stability.

Sam, get whatever shoes you want. regardless of where you plan to compete/train.
I would find a way to try out some OLY shoes before I bought them, since you might totally hate them.

I don't like thumb loops, so I remove them from my wraps. They always seem to get in the way. I hold the wrap in place with my ring finger until I complete the first turn.

I compete USAPL (IPF) and my stance isn't very wide (you can see it in my avi) and I use chucks and I've never been redlighted for depth, ever.
