How many hours do YOU work a week?
Just wondering how much your jobs require of you? feel free to state what it is that you do for work. I'm asking because I recently just switched jobs... and they are working me to the BONE! and my workouts are REALLY being compromised. In the last two weeks I logged 138 hours. Not including an hour commute to work.. and an hour back.. Needless to say I am EXHAUSTED! Yes I am a mortician as my name depicts. I will be getting a promotion December 1st- which will put me back down to the regular 40 hours.. but in the meantime .... BLAH!
Anyone else have a crazy work schedule? any tips? Im so tired right now I could serioulsly just start crying.. yet I can't get myself to calm down and go to sleep... blah.

Scheduled 55hrs. I wish I actually worked all of them though. I usually work 40ish.
Have you tried hot tea and a warm bath? Those always relax me and help me sleep.

Before my son was born and I worked full time, I worked about 38 hours a week (that doesn't include 1 hour lunch breaks which were of course unpaid), I worked 9am to 5:30 and it was in the admin/bookkeeping/reception field. I don't know how you work such long hours! I would have died!
I'm a stay at home mum now and only work for money for 5 hours each week (every Saturday).

I'm a paralegal that is supposed to work 37.5 per week, but I usually end up working 40 - 45 hours a week.

You have it rough, Mortician!
I work about 60 hours a week between my full and part time jobs. The one that is killing me is my part time job. It's at a night club so I get off between 2:30 and 3 am 3 nights a week (and then have to wake up by 6 to be at my full time job after one of those nights! LOL). I'm a bartender and dancer and before I knew how to bartend was dancing in heeled boots for about 5 hours a night. My legs aren't used to being used that way and I'm still having issues with my hips and the muscles surrounding my knee being sore all the time. That, in and of itself, has killed by leg workouts. But the lack of sleep and "too much cardio" haven't helped either!
I ended up having to take a week off of training to get everything in order. First thing I had to do was revisit nutrition. Went back to a higher fat (well, 30% instead of 20%) diet and upped my cals (overall, all my macros went up a bit). Then I had to cut back on workouts. Switched from 4-5 day splits to 2-3 full body. Then I had to figure out ways to get enough sleep over the week if I couldn't every day. I sleep half the day and laze around the house for the most part on Sundays now (used to work out every Sunday, at the very least!). It's a TOTAL rest day! Since getting all that straight, my body has adjusted to where I can handle 3-4 day splits again (legs are still never quite recovered though!) and I'm a lot less of an emotional wreck.
Anyway, my advice is take a week off to regroup and slow things down for the next month until you have the ability to be back at 100% again.

It was hectic, but had a lot easier time working 2-3 jobs and going to school full time...I think for the simple fact that I was capable of getting enough sleep! It is SO important! But my current situation is temporary, so I'll live.

First: I'm green with envy to all those with fewer than 40 hours. lol
Second: to all those who are in the same boat as me... Soooo nice to know i'm not the only one.
My nutrition went down the drain over the past two weeks. I was eating candy bar after candy bar! LOL.. I just couldn't stop. My body was hanging on for dear life.. so I didn't dare deprive myself. lol... but now I'm feeling a bit fat. seriously. my 6 pack is only kinda visible So I kicked my butt into gear and am really paying attention to what I eat. Only one more month to go and I'll be back to 40 hours a week. THANK GOD!
Amanda: you truly are an inspiration!

I work from 40-45 hours a week but if we get busier i may start working 50 hours a week.
I do work a desk job (I am in the financial industry) so it is kind of odd for me being an adrenaline junkie.

^^this is my life right now, too.
While I'm very thankful that I now have a job (was out of work for 6 months) it certainly is something to get used to again.
I give so much credit to women that work 40+ hrs a week, plus have a family and find time to stay fit and eat right...talk about a balancing act!
Mortician - I feel for you with that schedule --- that is rough! No wonder you were craving sugar, I'd be right there with you! At least you know it is temporary, once y ou get back on your normal hrs, you will be fine.
Again, props to all the working ladies that find time to have rock hard bodies!

I don't think I leave work...at least I don't have to drive. I don't work when I sleep.
I have my own business that I run from home and I'm an at home mom. My husband runs the shop with the guys working and I do everything else. I'm tech support, shipping, marketing, accounting, sales, la la la la. I don't have an assistant so when I'm busy I stay up late. This last week was rough, no working out. The kid had the flu AND it was busy at work. I try not to work on Sunday's...doesn't always work out. We took a couple days and went to Disneyland with the fam...yep, I worked at Disneyland with my laptop and took calls. There aren't too many days I have problems sleeping.
I get up at 6:30 to get the kid ready for school. I usually workout after I drop her off but sometimes the phone is already ringing. Once I answer it, I'm done for and usually end up missing my workout. I seriously have to ignore the phone. I usually go to bed around 1am.

Wow, lots of long hours in this thread! Hello fellow workhorses!
I own a coffee farm, and also run an internet business selling and shipping my product. So working for myself means extremely long hours, starting at about 7:00 AM until roughly 5 or 6 PM daily (including weekends), and sometimes longer depending on what needs to get done. So I won't even dare to tally up my hours, or it might scare me.
Being my own boss means I can also take a number of little breaks throughout the day, even a nap when needed. But I'll try to take a day off once a month in order to chill and be lazy.

I know what you mean about the sugar crave and the nutrition down the drain. I am just getting out of the same funk...and definitely feeling it in the gut.
I'm a full time student, plus I work part time...and own my own business. So I'm at about 70+ hours a week right now and its going to get worse in the next 2 weeks, as my midterm thesis presentation is coming up.
Not sure right now how to balance it all and working out, I'm finding myself so exhausted right now. Anyone have any ideas?

Ugh Im on a 14 hour day today.. and am seriously about ready to cry or hit someone.. I'm not sure which. I'm so stressed out.. And can I just VENT!
I cannot stand rude people! And we have this girl at work who is about my age and she REFUSES to look me in the eye: EVER! She'll be talking.. and look everyone else in the face... EXCEPT ME. Like she's trying to disclude me on purpose.
This hasn't just happened once either. Its NONSTOP. I'll just stare at her on purpose when she's talking... and she still just won't ever look at me. WHAT THE HELL? GOD I wanna smack her.
eh hem.. sorry. I feel better now.

could it be that you intimidate her in some way? Not looking someone in the eye isnt always a sign for lack of respect.

I don't know how I could possibly intimidate her. She's higher than me on the ladder... unless its personal.. like the way I look (not trying to be conceited.. just perfectly honest) Who knows. Its just so annoying to me; because I go OUT of my way for people to feel comfortable around me... I just don't understand someone who would purposefully act like this. I've only worked here for 2 months!.. and we don't ever even work side-by-side. So I am at a loss...
people are just insane.

You work at a morgue or mortuary (haha, whatever that place is called...)?? Do you embalm people? Sorry to prod, but that's a profession that seems very...scary...to go into. I think I would panic if I saw a dead person...yet alone for 60 hrs/week! ACK!!!!!
My vote is that this girl is jealous and/or threatened of you. Typical young female catty-ness.

Wow! You're the second female mortician I've met through Bodyspace. It seems like the embalming/funeral home profession attracts gorgeous women with super-fit bodies, much in the same way that firefighting seems to attract the hottest men.
You might find this semi-funny, but our most popular mortuary here in Hawaii is called the 'Dodo Mortuary,' located right next to Dr. Au (pronounced 'ow').

Very interesting! Thanks for sharing. You must have a very different aspect on death, compared to most people.

The key is to be well orgnised with your food and training - it sounds like you dont have much spare time which can be frustrating.. eating candy bars wont help you (but i know they are quick and easy to grab)! Can you get food delivered to your house so you have hearty meals ready? A hot bath, cup of tea and good food will help you sleep... maybe get a massage too?! good luck.. hope you get to go back to the gym soon, that always helps.
I work three jobs (one full time and two part time as a trainer/bootcamp instructor) and I am tired with all my training working about 45+hrs a week....

I just use my screen breaks to eat, toasted some bagels earlier - 5 min break. Then its dinner for the next screen break at 4.30pm - chicken in sauce with toasted bagels.

Well, I'm unemployed at the moment... So basically, I only work at cleaning the house, making dishes for my boyfriend and I and taking care of the pets.
