So watcha cookin up this weekend? I taught someone how to make stocks yesterday and man o man all I want right now is soup!..lol (I'm friggin cold..lol) Tomm. (sat.) I will be teaching someone how to bake pumpkin pie from scratch (roasting pumpkin etc.) and cookies! This is a warm-up for her, as we will be making about 150 dozen in a month or so to give out at the holiday's. Funny, she feel's bad that i can't help eat them. I told her it's all in a day's work I have a GOAL! now after Nov 14., I show her how to eat them..rofl

That's so funny! They will taste that much better after all the willpower and restraint you've been showing! Pumpkin pie recipe is one of my fave low-fat recipes because it's actually good and I don't get complaints! I figure the pumpkin is a good carb and use egg whites and splenda in the mix. I use graham wafer crust and personally don't eat much of it. I can't believe you're making sooo many ! Sounds like fun tho!
This weekend, I might sear some fresh tuna steaks with a garlic, wasabi, soy sauce type marinade. I think I may have told you about that one already... Tuna steaks are on sale this weekend so we'll do it again.
This morning I made blueberry pancakes for the teenager and with a small amount of batter remaining I made chocolate protein pancakes for me. I added a scoop of Scivation whey, some oatmeal and egg whites. Turned out delish.
Have a great weekend Phil !

Thing are improving all the time around here. My physiotherapist wants to continue working with me for another 6 weeks. But this would be to ensure that I'm back in full swing and to get me back in the gym doing things right. Yesterday, she gave me the go-ahead to work gluteus med and max. (I sure need it at this point LOL) That is good news, but she's teaching me how to engage all the little stabilizing muscles in the lower back (multifidus) instead of engaging the big muscles, which my body seems to want to do naturally. Same with abdominals, we're working on the transversal (lower abdomen and pelvic floor). It's quite interesting. By keeping a close eye on my form, I am able to run a little more now. YAY! While running, I watch my lower abs, and try to engage my butt and hams, rather than just the quads. My quads are dominating everything. I am not surprised considering my condition over the past months. So it's looking good ... ! yippee!
Today's workout: mostly cardio
35 mins on Elliptical with some HITTs
25 mins on Treadmill - includes 2 x 9 mins of running! Yay!
Biceps/Triceps/shoulders:
SS: 30 lbs bb: bi curls, tri skull crushers, upright rows, overhead press (careful with these!)
Seated decline db bi curls: 2x 10x 17.5 lbs (heavy!)
Seated military press: 2x9x17.5 lbs
I think that's it. Great workout. Got home and ate a (homemade) blueberry pancake with pb and half a banana and green tea! That was an hour ago...time to eat again. How about back bacon with eggs? Yep sounds good!

Oooh Why yes I do have a smoker! Yumm! The "back bacon" I just ate is "Canadian bacon" so it's not that bad. It's basically pickled porc loin - so not that fatty, like regular bacon. Salty, yes! It was gooood.

Another good day today. Seems everyday is better than the last. Got up a little later than expected this morning, but was in the gym by 10:30. I was tired but I knew once I got going, there'd be no stopping me. I love working out. I just can't imagine not doing it. Oh, yeah, that explains my misery over the past months! But all is progressing well now. Just keep looking forward!
Legs and lower back strengthening:
Cardio: 40 mins on Elliptical
External abductors: 2x15x55lbs
Cable leg back and side raises, standing: 2x15x10lbs Focusing on engaging multifidis
Squats with ball on back against wall w/20 lbs bb: 2x20; 2x20 single leg
Ham curls, seated: 2x15x70
Walking lunges: 2x15x15lbs; 2x15x12.5lbs
Added some cable shoulder raises cause I'm anxious to make them pop back out where they belong!!

It's great to hear that things are going well
I feel the same as you about working out. I hear people say 'I just dont have time' or 'I just didnt feel like it'. When I hear that I think "what? You didnt feel like it? You didnt have time?" Working out is part of my daily doings. There is no 'no time' lol

Ha, ha....I get mad about the blubber too....I lost 50 lbs. There was a point I would have killed my family to be where I am today....I still want to get to the cutting phase so I can see what I've been building, that starts in January. Funny thing now is I feel fat now and want to be leaner though I'm hovering in at around 13% bf. I can barely remember how I must have felt in my heavier days...though I remember enough not to let it happen again. Keep at it, and enjoy the fact that you can concentrate on gaining muscle and healing. You can cut later. Patience...(which I am short on as well when it comes to dropping weight and healing injuries). The training and dieting takes discipline, but so does learning patience, sometimes the hardest part.

Thanks for sharing. I hear you. Congrats on your weight loss and on keeping it steady. I hate bulking...it's kind of happening now despite myself. Patience? What's that? haha

Back is bothering me today. Don't know why. I ran yesterday outdoors for about half hour. Maybe that's what did it. Hard to say. I worked today then hit the gym on the way home for some fat burning cardio! I'd like to look half decent for Saturday. It's the OPA competition in Ottawa, I'm gonna volunteer to help out and my wonderful seamstress is using a pic of me in her advert. I'm very excited to be part of the event - even tho not competing.
Cardio:
30 mins on elliptical... it's getting boring...
15 mins on treadmill - included 10 mins running. I had pain with every step, so I had to give up. DANG !
Chest and back: various pulleys and machines. I'm still very tentative with the back, but am glad to be working some muscles with low weights. Slowly rebuilding strength.

I hope the back is just a minor issue.....don't rush things....the eliptical may be boring, but it's low impact. Maybe what your back needs right now.....

I think you may be right. The elliptical has been great thanks to low impact. Maybe I'm switching up too quickly. Must sloowww down!

I ran 25 mins with doggy this morning. Great! We both enjoyed it. Going to see my doctor soon for an update. ...and going to see METALLICA tonight! Ahhaha I know I don't seem like a metal chick, but some things a girl just can't miss. I promise not to headbang too much. Won't be good for the whiplash!

Yep - it was fun! Odd crowd of all ages. 2 boys in front of us were wearing mullet wigs. Very funny! The light show was spectacular: http://twitpic.com/o74cd (Camera phone not great) I'm not a huge fan but I love concerts and have missed so many over the past months. This was my first in a long while.
We got home late, but I managed a short run with Nanook this morning. Planned on hitting gym after work, but am very tired. Work was crazy today. I stayed longer than I should have. I feel guilty now. I hate that. I'll get up early, go to gym before 11 am physio/massage.

Nahh Never envy metal heads. After having seen Nine Inch Nails a few times, nothing compares.. or should I say "Nothing else matters" (that's a Metallica quote). NIN has a much more high tech show. Wildly creative. But of course, they're not as thrashy as Metallica. Altogether different now that I give it more thought.

Awesome. Yes, feeling better. I feel improvements on a weekly basis now...instead of monthly.

Today's workout is dedicated to MoEcho. I had an awesome workout this morning thanks to her. I decided to do a circuit very similar to what she posted yesterday. It was the best workout I've had since July. I felt pumped! Even my veins were making a very valiant attempt at showing some size. I can see them there under that layer of ...wine! haha
Warm-up: 15 mins on elliptical
Circuit x 3 with 4 minute run on treadmill in between:
DB walking lunges: 1x20x15; 1x20x17.5; 1x15x17.5
BB bicep curl: 1x12x30lbs; 1x10x40lbs; 1x5x50lbs (heavy) 1x5x40lbs
BB skull crusher: 1x12x30; 1x10x40; 1x8x40
BB close grip tricep press: 1x12x30; 1x10x40; 1x8x40
BB front lat raise: 1x12x30; 1x10x40; 1x8x40
Incline seated db bicep curl: 1x12x15; 1x9x17.5; 1x6x17.5
Reverse seated db rear delt: 1x12x15; 1x9x17.5; 1x6x17.5
Incline seated db chest flyes: 1x12x15; 1x9x17.5; 1x6x17.5
Incline seated db shoulder press: 1x12x15; 1x9x17.5; 1x6x17.5
Did not rest much at all between any sets. I was pooped. It felt great !!
Cooled down with 8 mins on treadmill, then 10 mins on elliptical.
Fun fun! Thanks for the Mo-tivation!

I read in Mo's journal that you did a circuit workout and wow what a workout you did. Super work buddy Circuits can be so intense but so much fun!

Well, we will have to meet in person one of these days...maybe at a concert! or maybe at a fitness event! Either way, we'll have to "rock out" together some day!

Busy day today! Took my son out to Pembroke to visit the college. Looks like he wants go work in the forest and put out fires etc etc. After today, I think it may actually be a good idea. Got back early, had a chance for a quick cardio workout at gym:
Stairmill: 6 minutes and my hip went berserk I stretched and tried again but had to get off after 3 mins. I guess I surrender the stairmill back to Mo until the damm hip gets its mechanics back in order.
Elliptical: yawn... 35 mins - intervals.
Then I ran into my friend and trainer. She is competing at tomorrow's Serious About Fitness model search in Ottawa. She was in a great mood and it was contagious! I can't wait to see her and all the athletes at the event and the Eastern Ontario OPA Championship. Very sad that I can't compete at Level 2. But I'll be helping hand out and organize the trophies so that will be a blast ! Glad to be involved. It will certainly motivate me to bring it for the spring comps.
Have a great weekend all... and all best wishes to those of you who are competing this weekend either in Ottawa or Toronto or anywhere else!!
