Let's all sit around and eat salty strips of pork fat first thing in the morning. If that's not enough, we'll put it in our sandwiches, and on soups and salads. And even mix it in with steamed veggies.

Hampton Roads isn't a bad area, but the traffic was horrible. It took half an hour to an hour to get anywhere, no matter how far of a drive it was. Hampton and Norfolk are only 20-25 miles apart - a 1 to 2 hour drive, depending on traffic. And no fancy metro system like NoVA.

Meh, it's like that up in the North too. The metro helps but not a whole lot. They've been doing roadwork on 66 and 495 lately and it's a frakking nightmare to make the drive up towards DC.
But honestly you get used to it; at least I did. It's the nature of the beast in metropolitan areas.

My only qualm with this area is the unbelievably and comically sh*t drivers.
Nothing makes me rage more. I think 1 out of every 10 post I made in the rant in the last year was complaining about the moron commuters here.

I've been to DC more than a few times, but I only made the mistake of driving into the town once. After driving around the National Mall and not finding a parking spot, it took me more than an hour to get out of there. After that, I always drove to Arlington, and took the metro into the city.
edit: Come to TX where land is plentiful.

I keep forgetting you used to live here.
My entire work/school weeks are spent in and around Arlington & DC.

I have close friends that I consider family living near DC right now. I don't know where exactly, but the wife works at Pentagon, so they must be somewhere near there. I may take a trip to go visit them sometime after Christmas.

There's land here for < $5000/acre within 20 minutes of a metro area...
And by 20 minutes i mean 20 miles.

I wonder if it's going to be eventually worth it to buy ranch land in the extreme square that is Northeast Texas near the Oklahoma border. I've seen rain, sleet, and snow there all in a day's travel during the winter months. Three gas stations within 400 miles or so. No way to escape at least $10.50 in tolls going through OK.

NE TX is pretty much like OK. There is nothing there.

A long road (leading to i-40/more of the "new" Route 66) and some small marked graves and miles of flatland and short cacti. Good place to kill opportunities, drive, social life, and worth. It's perfect.
