Grip When Squatting
I've always used the 'thumb-over' grip as advocated by Rippetoe, but I haven't seen one vid of an elite class lifter using that grip during squats. they always do the 'thumb-aroud' and elbows pushed forward grip.
which one is better/has more advantages?

Grip it with your thumbs....provides more stability and less risk of the bar rolling around

yea recently the bar keeps sliding down my back, making my hands go numb after the set (while using thumb-over grip).
wouldn't the thumb-around grip put a lot of pressure on the wrists?

You don't roll your wrists back -- I was taught to push my elbows forward so that my arms would be more upright. That said, it can put pressure on your palms and it can hurt for a day

A little OT here, but the other day I used wristwraps cuz on higher reps my wrists start to hurt. Bad idea! My shoulders hurt for like 4 days afterwards.

Hmmm, I use wrist wraps all the time on squats light and heavy and have not had any issues with the shoulders. But I do stretch a lot before squatting.

Agreed, my wrists feel horrible if I wrap my whole hand around, plus when I did use my thumb I had the habit of resting the weight on my arms and not my back.

The bar should be held on your back, not in your hands.

I never wrap my thumbs around the bar. Evolution was not heavily practiced where I am from.

Wrap your thumbs, pop the elbows forward and let it increase your leverage and decrease the risk of allowing the bar to roll. Keep all the weight on your back and shoulders and keep the pressure off of your wrists. I broke 500lbs with this technique.

Well, my shoulders were pretty tore up from a pretty heavy bench session a couple days prior. That's the first time I ever felt it and the first time I've ever wrapped my wrists. Coincidence maybe.

Stick the bar in your shirt. If you start the bar at the collar of you shirt and slide into position, the bar will catch and won't slide.
