Yeah...you gained fat. Are you fat? No. So there really shouldnt be a problem here. Also if I had to pick between your before and after pics. I would chose the after pic in a heart beat. You definitely made some decent gains!
Cardio....aint gonna get you to cut fat. I used to think it contributed to significant fat loss..imo I'd rather just eat 200-300 calories less in a day so i dont ahve to waste 30 minutes of my time running, when i can be spending that lifting weights.
Truely, my daily cardio is walking from the parking lot to my class...its about a 15 minute walk. And then on the way from my last class of the day to the parking lot, I take the long walk there! Takes me about 25 minutes. Plus there is additional walking from class to class and what not. Overall I probably get around 45mins- 1hour of walking a day just at my college...bam, thats my cardio. I'm too lazy to do cardio anymore (used to do like atleast an hr a day, and 1 or 2 times a week I would do a 12-18 mile run...eventually got too time consuming and boring)...It burnt me out on cardio FOREVER!
On my recent cut....0 cardio, only cardio i get...is like i said the walking i do at school...Also I'm shedding fat even during days when I dont go to school and i just sit on my ass at home and go to the gym to lift weights for 60-90 minutes.
The cardio is up to you...but it isnt necessary. When it comes down to it, just make sure you're getting enough protein to maintain enough muscle mass, and you have a decent calorie deficit. What you Could do is also cycle your calories like...
RMR = Resting Metabolic Rate (The amount of calories you burn, assuming you were to lay in bad all day....Keep in mind its NOT BMR)
Day 1: RMR-500 calories
Day 2: RMR-500
Day 3: RMR-500 calories
Day 4: Maintenance+500
Day 5: RMR-500
Day 6: RMR-500
Day 7: Maintence+500
Should lose a solid 1.5-2 lbs per week....and those maintence days should be enough to allow your muscles to repair a bit and prevent plateau i suppose. Also may give you the ability to cheat a bit...not too much, but a bit.
If you want to cut, I would probably just cut for a month. After the cut you'll probably have as much fat as you did in your before pic.
