Back & Legs hurt/ache....not sure why? (serious)
So the day before yesterday my lower back started aching (radiating type ache) while at work. The aches radiated from my lower back down the backs of my legs to behind the knees. This was kinda on and off that day.
Yesterday the ache/pain came back while at work and got progressively worse...took 3 BC powders that helped some throughout the day. I get home and the pain is getting worse to were it hurts to sit, stand up, etc. I took 600mg of Ibuprofin and 4 Abyss and tried to go to sleep. I never could fall asleep and the pain kept getting worse and no position in the bed helped. The radiating ache felt like to was almost spasming my legs, as they wanted to pull towards my chest. I ended up getting up twice to go take a super hot bath. This is the only thing that seemed to help. After my second bath at about 4:00 am this morning and taking an additional 1000mg of Ibuprofin the pain subsided enough for me to go to sleep.
I woke up at 6:00am this morning and came to work, and the pain is starting to come back, reason being I typed this.
I have not hurt my back, pulled anything, nor did anything funny that I can remember to cause this. I have never felt this type of ache/pain before.
Anyone have any clue as to what this might be, or soemthing I can do to help it?
I have a doctors appointment with the wife at 4:10 this afternoon and if it continues to get worse I will be going to the doctor.

I have no clue Tim. Hopefully the super smart supp miscers have an idea on what's wrong and if not, the doctor will. Feel better Tim, I can't imagine how much that hurts.

Kidney stones maybe?
I'm experiencing the dull lower back pain, and crippling sharp pains.
Quote:
|
So what are the warning signs and symptoms of a kidney stone attack? It's difficult to be specific, because you may experience any combination of some general symptoms. Some kidney stone sufferers may feel a dull, non-descript pain in their lower back for days, while others are suddenly crippled by extremely sharp pains. These symptoms and warning signs are intended to be a general layman's guide to self-diagnosing a possible kidney stone attack, not a substitute for proper medical attention. If you feel pains that are unrelenting and strong, seek a doctor's care as soon as possible. Don't wait until the actual attack begins- a simple in-office urine test can usually diagnose a kidney stone condition long before the actual attack.

It is the only thing I can think of, and all the research I have been doing is pointing to them. Luckily my doctor just recently turned his facility into a Emergency Care and they are opened until 8:00pm. I will be going by there later this evening and seeing what he can do for me.

I have a few theories, but that's the smart thing to do. Go to your MD as opposed to being BROdiagnosed.

I doubt it is kidney stone pain. Pain would be sudden onset and sharp. You will be doubled over. Pain location is usually in the flanks or groin. Ex. sudden onset r flank pain radiating to r groin. pain comes and goes in waves and is kinda colic in nature. Pain can also occur in your testicles but never heard it radiating down the legs. That tells me it would be more sciatic nerve pain.

Yes...that is the only position I have found to relieve the pain some. With lying completely flat with my legs down it hurts bad.

I would put this as a definite possibility. My father had very similar pains as you are describing when he had kidney stones. I am sorry to hear this, I remember how much pain he was in, he went 2-3 nights with no sleep.

That was my first thought as well. Could be a lumbar disc problem compression the sciatica nerve causing the pain down the back of the leg. Usually it only effects one side, but can effect both. Usually hurts more when you move around or walk. I have it and know how bad it can suck depending on the level of compression.
Regardless, it's wise to seek medical attention and find out for sure.

This. However, due to the radiating complaints, my first inclination would be to investigate a neurological problem. IMO,the fact that you can't or can hardly sleep at night in a supine position is a big red flag. Err on the side of safety and get checked out soon. Good luck.

I did not....only because when we got home, my mother in law had a lidocain patch to try. I put it on, and took 3 Exedrine and the pain went pretty much away. Got a good nights rest and woke up feeling fine. Have felt fine since, so I'm honestly not sure what it was.
Whatever it was worked itself out after using the patch and taking the exedrine.
