I really loved Keto (was doing TKD and had great results) but I got floored by kidney stones last August about a year into TKD, so had to drop off. My urologist said that it was partially the foods I was eating . . . high oxalate foods like almonds, spinach, other nuts, my chocolate whey powder. But also that people who are prone to kidney stones just tend to form more on the ketogenic diets.
So I have been off keto since then but still like to check in on the forum. I have toyed with the idea of giving keto another try without those high oxalate foods. But I'm stone free now and it's just really not something I want to go through again if I can help it.

Just like all diets people start, fail and vanish completely. Some have great results, fall of the wagon for various reasons. One thing leads to another, before you know it, that cheat meal leads to cheat week, leads to 'normal' eating again becuase you just don't have time.
Myself i'll vanish from time to time due to RL time constrants. I went from a very rigorous gym schedule to pretty much no gym time in more than a year. Why? New relationship, job put me on 10 hour days with a 2 hour commute each day, i also went back to full time school. So you'll always find me bettering myself in some way, however right now school is a priority over working out. That doesn't mean i dont still eat a keto lifestyle, because i do
Example.
Wake up 4:45 AM (Gym isnt open this early)
Drive to work by 6:00Am.
Get off work at 4:00pm, get home at 5:00pm.
5:00pm-6:30pm cook/eat/clean/take care of dogs.
6:30pm-10 do homework, then go to bed with less then 8 hours of sleep.
Should be moving back closer to my work by the begining of next year, and trying to work from home more as of late to fit in time for the gym. I miss it, big time.

I originally went from 205 -> 185-ish I think.. then I got sick, school came up, life got busy... never planned to make keto permanent anyway so I went away for 1-2 months.
Just came back last week and plan to get from 175-> 160 then I'm done... no way I can go lower than 160 with my height. Going to do a High protein/ low fat/low carb diet after this...
I can only use keto as a fat loss tool... it requires too much attention to detail sometimes... doesn't allow me to play tennis or racquetball... or go hiking...

I'm here everyday and reading the keto forum. I have been on keto since Sept 7. And to be honest it worked for the first two weeks and now it just doesn't seem to be working for me. I am still following it until I can figure out what my next step will be.
I'm a little disappointed I really love the diet and don't find it hard to stick to, I can go forever on very low carbs and still run and lift like before. But I am just not dropping bf

TOM and/or have you tried a clean refeed yet to give your thyroid a boost?
Are you eating enough calories.
Can you list what you ate yesterday and today with a macro and calorie breakdown?

Yeah...you may need to just take a week off and cheat a bit. I have been doing this since April and I have probably taken 3 or 4 weeks off here and there to "bulk." I think it's helped a bit.

Judicious use of free meals and diet break over 1-2 weeks can do wonders if you have been dieting for a long time.
Just make sure you control your calorie intake and you can do alot to reset your metabloism while not piling on tons of fat.

Two days ago my macros were
1611 cals
109g fat 61%
24g carbs 7%
125g protein 32%
That was with a leg day and 35 minutes cardio
Yesterday was
1418 cals
93.3g Fat 58%
21.8g carbs8%
121g protein 35%
That was with 30 minutes cardio only
And well today I was doing great then I just went to a kids halloween party and went off keto for the first time since I started! I had cookies and tortilla chips..uh oh
I haven't done a refeed since I started keto at the beginning of sept. Do you think I should take a break? I lift 4-5 times a week with 4 days cardio. I have a very physical job as well. My cals are usually around 1400-1650

Answer:To be very honest I was afraid of introducing more carbs back into my diet. I kept hearing about how bad people were feeling and I thought my workouts were pretty good and not suffering, so I stayed very low carb with no carb ups. I think my highest carb day since I started was like 54g of carbs.
BUT lastnight I had made this mental disconnection and told my husband that I was going off keto and then looking into a new diet to follow(of course he wasn't happy, since he follows everything I do and he loves keto and does really well on it). I went to my girlfriends party I ate 8 chocolate chip cookies (I know it's terrible) and tortilla chips and to be honest even though that was a bad decision for carbs I don't feel crappy at all today. Lastnight after I ate the cookies I did feel nauseous. But this morning I feel fine. I will hit the gym this afternoon for a workout.

If you are working out that much AND have a physically demanding job...you probably need to eat more.

Your calories are too low.
What type of job do you have?

Carb-ups are a necessary evil.. Our body use the carbs to refuel our glycogen stores in both our muscles and our liver.. You dont have to do them weekely must every two to three weeks is good. One side effect usually associated wth keto is brain fog or forgetting things not thinking clear.. that could be what you experienced when deciding to go off Keto.. Most people say the feel bad on a carb up usualy are doing it wrong.. I usually feel bad at my first meal.. by the second its gone, and feel just fine.. Plus your completly energized for the following week.. Dont look at it as having carbs.. look at it like a REFEED or REFUEL.. Filling up those glycogen stores.. not your belly

i tried keto/AD about a year ago and whilst it worked well and i could stick to it my goals were to gain strength and muscle and keto just wasnt doing it. I also didnt realise how weak and skinny i was so ive been training hard and eating stacks of carbs. ive since gained 12kg's and am twice as strong as before, ive just started keto again this week to try and cut some kg's for summer, for me i think it will work as an excellent cut diet but after summer i'll be back into the carbs again getting stronger.

I got my BF to a low enough point that I was satisfied and ready to start bulking. So that's what I've been doing for the past couple months. And it's way more fun than cutting. Woo!
