Goat Cheese?
So what do you all think of this stuff?! Cuz I'm on a real Goat Cheese kick.. I'm eating it with boiled Beets. and can I just say... Its AMAZING! I know it may sound gross... but a while ago I had a "beet and goat cheese salad" and a upscale restaurant and fell in love.
Seriously... if you like the two separately: TRY THEM TOGETHER.
Anyone have any con's I should be aware of eating goat cheese?
Here's the nutritional info:
serving size: one oz (hahha yeah right.. only one!? pshhh) but none the less:
Cals:70
Fat: 6g
Carb: 1g
Protein 4g

OMG...I looooooooooove goat cheese!!!
I've had the salad you mentioned -- beet and goat cheese combo is da'bomb!!!
I think its ok on a occasion -- like your treat meal or something --- but everyday or regularly...I dunno, I think you could probably eat something a little more nutritious/less caloric...ya know?

What kind of goat cheese? I see it in the store but I never buy it because I never know which one to get. But I would like to try it.

Mixed greens with cranberries (I like dried) chopped pecans, goat cheese crumbles and balsamic vinegar dressing is so phucking delicious!! OMG! nom nom nom nom nom!! Throw some blackberries on, too, if you have 'em.
As for which one to buy, I guessed. lol
Some stores carry crumbled goat cheese - usually in a little tub or something. I buy it in a little roll cause that's all my store carries and then just take little chunks off with my fork.
IMO it's kinda like creamier yet tangy cream cheese.
nom nom nom nom nom nom

I love anything goat...besides goat itself (but i do like lamb...). Goat cheese is amazing with everything! I will even mix it into my mash potatoes instead of sour cream.
We also drink a lot of raw goat's milk in our house. I get it right from the farm by the gallon and they even make goat cheese there!

Lots of goat cheese lovers here!
My favorite brand in the firm/block form is Alta Dena, so incredible tasting (although I can't get this at Costco).... http://www.altadenadairy.com/
In the meantime I just get whatever kind of goat cheese being offered by Costco at the time.
This is my new girl Ludmilla. Hopefully she'll give me some quality milk when she's older, then I can 'try' and make some cheese!

SAME HERE! It's the only dairy I eat/drink! Mmmmm! And I make my own goat mozzarella and "feta." I haven't mastered making the soft, creamy chevre yet.
If you like it with the boiled beets, try it with roasted/grilled beets. Core the raw beets (remove the greens and cook them like spinach! A quick wilting and they are delicious, too!), toss the little beety bodies around in olive oil and kosher salt (or celtic sea salt) and roast until almost done. Pull them out, let them cool and stuff with chevre goat cheese. Return to oven/grill and roast until done. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!
I will also make little boats out of zucchini and spritz with olive oil and roast. While the boats are roasting, I chop up portabello, the "guts" from the zucchini, some olives and toss that into a pan to cook down. I toss in a few spoonfulls of a good marina or tomato basil sauce and mix until nice n' clumpy. Then, I remove the zucchini from the oven, cool to touch and smear the boats with soft goat cheese and spoon some of the chopped mixture on top. Return to oven for a few moments to get the cheese all melty and YUM!!!!
Sorry. I get hyper about goat cheese!

This is my kind of forum----a nice long convo about goat cheese!!!!!!!! LUV IT! I usually have it about once a week. I can't go overboard on dairy as its bugs me if its more than moderation.
What I do----take a pork tenderloin, butterfly it and pound it out to make it flat. Mix together goat cheese, bit of dried cranberries, spinach, walnuts----lay it out down the center of the tenderloin. Roll it up then tie. Season the outside (dried rosemary, thyme s&p) and cook (or BBQ, just need to brown all sides and generally its done!)
SOOOO GOOD!!
