Private sites just require you to sign up [much like bb.com]. Typically you can only be invited through current members until a certain # of members is reached, then inactives/leechers get pruned and it's 'opens' again.

If you have to pay for the site, I am suspecting you may be thinking about newsgroups, which costs money, but it way better. I know you can buy invites off of ebay for high level trackers though ... which is stupid.

to the OP... unless your eighty years old or retarded, there's no reason why you cant take five minutes to learn how to use torrent clients. lolz

It's the simplest thing in the world to use when it comes to downloading stuff, and by far the fastest.

are rapidshare and megaupload considered to be torrents/z?

I've been using these two sites and they work great. They are also the two main download fixtures in the misc "rock album of the day"...

does anyone have any input on these sites? like safety/privacy issues? not tryin to get nabbed by the RIAA

Harsh...I've been using Limewire pretty much since it came out, so I've never really "looked into" the whole torrent thing, I've heard bits and pieces, but the whole thing seemed complicated and since I am a creature of habit, I've just always used what has worked for me.

The RIAA is out to get the seeders [mainly], you should be fine in any case [although there were cases].

It may come down to specific laws, who knows. All I know is, is that RS successfully won while attempted to get shut down.

IMO, RS is safer than torrents. Either way though you should have nothing to worry about.

this man knows his stuff, also with private trackers you have to seed alteast till a 1.0 ratio of dl/ul usually. Pretty easy just leaving you're computer on overnight, and there way safer then public if you download other stuff besides music

I know people who use a proxy when using public trackers [isohunt etc], but private sites are safe.

BitTorrent is way better than Limewire. I still occasionally use limewire to dl a single song, but for the most part I strictly use torrents.

I hate all the bullsh*t results that you get using limewire.

That's exacly the boat I'm in right now. I'm tried of fishing through seeing if something looks legit.
