Rotator cuff: How to tell if its weak?
Hi,
I suspect that my rotator cuff is weak on my right shoulder. Reason being is that I find it easier to tense my upper left back when I have my arms pulled back, similar to the face pull exercise. Is there anyway to tell how strong your rotator cuffs are and or what to look for in exercises that point out the weakness of the muscle? At the moment I'm not experiencing any pain nor have I had a shoulder injuries or surgery.

does your shoulder click whenyou raise arm or do a lat raise? If so, it is weak. if not, it is still a good idea to wokr on them

How to tell? Are you human? Then...its weak. EVERYONE benefits from rotator cuff strengthening, yet very very few people do it.
The RC is the most fragile joint in the human body. It is inherently weak. So, in short...do RC exercises, prevent injury.

They do click once but not continuously. I do notice that during chin ups my right shoulder fills like it will pop out of the socket. I'm getting the popping/shoulder coming out of the joint type feeling. This is my right arm

clicking and popping in your shoulder has NOTHING to do with your RC
when it comes down to it, there is no reason not to do RC work. Do it once a month or something... a little bit of work for it is a lot better than none.

A sign of RC over-taxation or injury is discomfort or pain while performing horizontal pushes.

i'd have to agree. the technical way to tell is to go to an athletic training type lab and use an isokinetic dynamometer to measure your external rotation torque output relative to your internal rotation torque output. i think a ration of external/internal above 0.75 (ish, don't quote me on that) it considered less risky in terms of being injured. i'd be willing to bet most recreational lifters and bodybuilders have a ratio skewed toward internal rotation so focussing on external rotation exercises more will likely be right for you, but again, that's just a general rule, certainly not true every time. good luck and train hard.

if my shoulder clicks every time I raise my arm, should I do RC exercises? It clicks everytime I raise it and the doctor told me that my shoulders suffer from an imbalance between the RC and the deltoid
